One mindfulness practice that I do daily is.....
One thing that I do is get in my car turn the stereo on to some southern hip hop and crank it up I can think things threw
I don't really have one yet. I might watch YouTube to distract me but personally I dont think distraction is fixing anything.. in my case anyways.
I find doing something tactile really helps keep me grounded on the present. I like to work in the garden, the feel and smell of the soil connects me to nature. I also like to model with clay.
Somedays are more difficult than others and I practice a lot more guided meditations when I'm really stressed and need to get out of my head, so to speak.
Meditate
Meditating is still not an easy task for me. I'm forcing myself to do it these days, and I don't like it. I take everything away from me, and just try so hard to focus on the guided meditation, and I need to make sure I'm breathing in 4 seconds, and then breathing out 6. I hate doing that. I don't like controlling my breath. In addition, I just finished a mountain meditation, where it said, "Now, envision you are the mountain". I felt like I was in a coma. I felt like nobody would let me move, won't let me do anything but breathe. It was so stifling. I saw the mountain as sad, lonely, and stuck in the same position no matter how hard it tried to change.
But what I do enjoy doing, is taking any moment and being mindful of it. If I'm in nature, then all I need is there. I'll just stare at a plant or something, being aware of my senses. If I'm indoors, I'll put my headphones on and play a rainfall video or something.
Ive recently started meditation. Every morning before I get ready and every evening before I go to sleep. It relaxes my mind and starts and end my day with some peace.
Meditate with the Headspace app.
I'm determined to gain the ability to let automatic negative thoughts no longer take control of me. I'm determined to learn how to control ones reactions to stressful moments rather than let them take a hold of me.
I've tried different things to get centered. Nothing can ever calm me down. If I solve 1 issue, my head will just start worrying about something else to stress about.
I'm not really a big meditator (I have pretty severe ADHD and concentration issues), so I've started a daily writing routine. I have morning pages where I just free write for about 750 words or 3 handwritten pages - which is nice to sit with a mug of tea. I also tend to do a written check-in with myself (in the afternoon) about where I am mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, have I taken my meds, etc. It's nice to see where I am and if I'm in need of challenging thoughts - I can mark them with {these things} and come back to it later in the day (often before bed) to refute those thoughts. Wow. I guess I really do write a lot. LOL!
@NowhereNever156
I love your routine! I will be doing more journaling, for sure! That's such a great idea to refute your negative thinking by the end of the day.
Things aren't as bad as they seem.
