Chances are you have heard someone talking about grounding at one point or another. But what does grounding actually mean?

Basically the theory is that our bodies are meant to come into contact with the Earth (a grounding force) on a regular basis. Positive electrons in the form of free radicals (ever heard of those guys?) can build up in our bodies and direct contact with the ground balances this out as it is a negative grounding charge. Throughout history humans have spent time outdoors much more than we do in modern time and have been in direct contact with the soil. From walking on the ground barefoot, to gardening or tilling the soil, humans have always touched the earth… until recently.

Now, we live in houses, wear rubber shoes, we dont often come into direct contact with the ground.

Some benifits on Grounding

1. Reducing inflammation by defusing excess positive electrons

2. Reducing chronic pain

3. Improving Sleep

4. Increasing Energy

5. Lowering stress and promoting calmness by reducing stress hormones.

6. Normalizing biological rhythms including circadian rhythm

7. Improving blood pressure and blood flow

8. Relieving muscle tension and headache

9. Lessens menstrual and female hormone symptoms

10. Speeds healing- used in some places to prevent bed sores

11. Can eliminate jet lag

12.Shortens recovery time from injury or athletic activity

13. Reducing or eliminating snoring

14. Helping support adrenal health

@RumpleSteeleSkin wonderful article on grounding. It is also a grounding of our energy. Here is a simple set of exercises with body movement that is mainly done standing in place for people that are medically okay to do normal exercise. Check with your doctor if you are not sure about your status. The purpose is to ground the energy and destress.

I have decided to try adding a mindful practice each week until i find what works best for my own self care. I think grounding will be the first one I add. Thank you for the information. :)
