7 types of meditation
There are various ways to meditate, but which ones are best for you? This post will teach you the 7 different types to meditating.
Mindful meditation: Meditating is when you bring yourself back to the present state of mind, releasing all the past so you can go on with your daily life. Meditating helps you not judge yourself for things or words that was said, it let's you refocus on the present.
Transcendant meditation (TM): This meditation uses a certain word, sound or mantra to relax the body and mind. You simply sit down in a relaxed position and chant a sound or word for 20 minutes.
Guided meditation: This is sometimes known as a guided image or visualization when meditating. The guided meditation can be sounds, sights, and textures.
Vipassana meditation: This type of meditation dates back to 2,500 year old Indian tradition. This is where you see things as they really are. This is done by deep self observant and mind body connection.
Loving-kindness or Metta meditation.: This meditation is unconditional love toward yourself, well-wishes towards you and others.
Mantra meditation: the technique that uses words or sound like "om" when meditating. You relax in a comfortable position and chat a word you want or "om" and you relax.
Movement meditation: using an active form of mindfulness challenging awareness into a physical motion. This meditation can be walking in a park, beach, and around the block of where you live. You can use a slow moving meditation like tai chi and yoga. This keeps you focused and balanced when meditating.

I find that sitting or lying down quietly to meditate is very relaxing. I can be guided or non guided. I also enjoy Tai Chi and Yoga because they help keep my mind and body flexible.

I think guided meditation and mindfulness are good starting points, especially if you are new to meditation. Sometimes my mind keeps jumping between work, worries, and random thoughts, so focusing on my breathing or listening to a guided session feels easier than sitting in silence. I also like the idea of loving-kindness meditation because we can be pretty hard on ourselves without even realizing it. MyBeing is worth exploring for mindfulness and reflection prompts, especially when you want to slow down and spend a few minutes checking in with yourself.
