Journey to a better mental health / check-in (01/11/24)
happy happy happy new year to my beautiful teamates! I do hope that all is well, and that everyone enjoyed the holidays as much as I did.
some of you might not know this, but January is mental wellness month and i'd love to start a discussion/exercise where everyone reading this post can participate if wishes to.
firstly, let me start off by saying this, I got this idea from a blog, therefore, I give all credits to the original creator/s. with that being said, back to regular programming if we shall.
this activity is called the The Feelings Wheel
emotional awareness is crucial for mental health, as it allows individuals to recognize and address their feelings effectively. the feelings wheel can help individuals develop emotional intelligence, improve communication skills, and enhance their ability to cope with stress and difficult situations. the feelings wheel can help us to put words to our emotions and to care for or mental health. the feelings wheel may also come in handy with journaling.
how does the feelings wheel work?
the feelings wheel organizes the different dimensions of feelings we may have into several categories and subcategories to help you pinpoint exactly how you are feeling, which can be helpful especially if you're overwhelmed by your emotions or in a heated communication.
why use the feelings wheel?
in brief, the feelings wheel:
✓ facilitates effective communication
✓ encourages mindful reflection
✓ can help you identify emotional patterns & triggers
✓ can support emotional regulation
how to use the feelings wheel / exercise
I want everyone who is willing to participate in this exercise to carefully examine the image provided below

image of feelings wheel originally created by, Dr. Gloria Willcox
after you've done so, do a quick check in with yourself. the first step in using the color wheel is to take a moment to check in with how you are feeling in the moment.
after checking in with yourself I want you to communicate your feelings. once you know exactly how you're feeling then you can start communicating it whether you choose to share to yourself or by replying to this post.
please know that I will make myself available for you if anyone wishes to talk about what they're feeling, and wish not to disclose here 💚 happy sharing teamates!
@chyni hi 👋🏻 I’ll be the first to take part on this exercise!
I didn’t really look at the entire wheel since it’s a lot, but I just started with the inner wheel, selecting the feeling that matched me the most, which was Fearful. And then looked at the feelings in the 2 outer wheels under it and selected:
Worried and Excluded
I’m worried because of the slightly escalated discomfort I’m feeling from my health issues.
And I’m kind of feeling excluded because I live pretty much by myself, and I feel ignored when no one replies to me in live chat sessions (and just to be clear, I’m not at all referring to 7cups 🙂 ).
Thanks for inviting us to use this feelings wheel exercise to allow us to check in today!

hey panda, thank you for participating 💚
firstly, I wanna say that I'm wishing for good things regarding your health issues. I can totally relate to that, and I know how tiring and frustrating it can get at times. sending comforting hugs your way ✨
living alone can get really lonely at times, again, I can totally relate to that. it hurts when it seems as if everyone is ignoring you as well, which adds on to the loneliness, I totally get you. I'm sure that one day, you'll find your people just like I did, or find some peace and comfort in being by yourself. trust me when I say, you'll be okay 🤗 I wish your situation was different, however, I do believe that sometimes it have to reach you to teach you, and I know that after this you'll be a much better version of yourself. 💚 please take care, and again thanks for sharing, know that your 7 cups family is here for you, always.
@chyni i feel thankful, hopeful, curious and creative. Cheers to the positive emotions 🍵
