Hi everyone! Over the weeks we have discussed various things related to exercise and motivation. There is a pattern of people struggling to get exercise done. When things get rough, it helps to have a system of accountability that helps keep us in check and to get us to do what we dislike.

What keeps you accountable to your exercise routine?

The only one you can be accountable to is yourself....

it is easy to tell people " yes i did x,y,z exercise today"....... because most people will take you word ...... until it becomes apparent.................. example friends said she walked all the time ... i do so took her on walk and it was obvious she was NOT able or conditioned to do what she had told me as an accountability buddy.

also when someone else is involved excuses come to play more easily ....... when you look in mirror and tell yourself .. you know the truth....

gadgets, watches or apps that show your distance can be a reality check .........of how much time effort or distance you really did cover.... and the consistency ....

I have been working out in one form or fashion all my life. I have learned that the only way I'm going to reach MY goals is to be dedicated, motivated and accountable to myself. So, I agree with @toughTiger6481....You have to be accountable to yourself....but each individual has their own set of obstacles....some folks actually may need an accountability partner...not everyone is motivated, dedicated and strong willed to do what they need to do every day to reach the goals they have set for themselves....they may need that little push to get there.....if that is you, and decide you need an "accountability buddy", this buddy needs to have very similar goals and you have to have an agreement from the get go...the "rules" so to speak. I had an accountability buddy at one time and things were good....we were motivating each other to go to the gym and workout, we were sharing our workout data from our Garmin trackers, the whole 9 yards...it was awesome for a long while.......then life happened and my buddy ended up in a bad head space....I knew this and thought that keeping them motivated and pushing them to go would help not only their head space,(everyone says exercise helps your mood) but it would also keep them on track to their goals....plus being an accountability buddy, I thought it was my job.....but by trying to motivate them every day about "getting it in", which is what our agreement was, made them resent me and not want to do it even more due to their emotional and mental wellbeing at the time.....so guidelines and rules about when to push and when to stop are important if you decide to use an accountability buddy.....but the best way is to be accountable to yourself.....
