Loss of motivation and goals
How do you all deal with the loss of motivation and goals?
Over the past few years ive completly loss all motivation. Its gotten to the point of me not having goals or dreams anymore. I use to have things i wanted to do and achieve in life and now i just want to survive for my kids and thats it. Having no goals or passions is a terrible way to live life and takes a giant toll on my mental health.
So how does everyone rekindle their passion for life? What is a good way to find new goals? There has to be more to life and sitting and waiting for the reaper to come make his visit right?
Thank you to anyone who can give any advice!
@sublimedad91 I think everyone likes to appreciate beautiful things. Regardless of whether she is interested or not, when people see beautiful things, they will feel happy and comfortable. When I was a child, my grandma liked to braid my hair. She decorated my hair to make herself feel meaningful. Similarly, many children at that time were envious of my new hairstyle that I did not repeat every day. Plus, I personally love researching new recipes, and I think the approval of my family is some of my biggest joys every day.

Its sounds like you are dealing with a rough patch and challenging time.... It can be difficult to feel like you don't have a "purpose" in life, and trying to navigate this world on your own.
Someone once mentioned to me that we have to find a "Purpose" in life... (something that we look forwards to, something that keeps us going each day, getting up each day, living life for each day).... That can be hard to do if you feel you have no motivation.
But seriously ask yourself, what is your Purpose? What do you enjoy? What do you like to do? What is something that makes you happy or has made you happy in the past?.... Perhaps really thinking on those things can lead you to some sort of passion again in your life. Whether you liked to workout?... Meet up with friends or family? ... Go shopping? ... Take a day-trip with your kids somewhere?... etc...etc...
Do you have any hobbies? ... What things did you do in the past? Do you have any friendships or "connections"? Someone that you could meet up with, spend some time with and do something "different" with?
The thing is, is that many of us fall into a 'Slump' where we feel we don't have purpose or direction sometimes. But all we can do is "Try" and continue to "Try"... and you will find something that makes you happy and motivated again!....
Another thing that I would mention or ask is if you have looked into talking to a Counselor or Therapist about your feelings. Or even a "Life Coach"? Someone who can help you sort through your feelings about things, and even help to guide you on a path again?!

It sounds like you've been through a challenging time, and it's completely understandable to feel this way given your experiences. Losing motivation and goals can indeed be difficult and can take a toll on mental health. It's positive that you're reaching out and seeking advice on how to rekindle your passion for life.
One approach that some people find helpful is to start by exploring activities or hobbies that used to bring joy or interest. Sometimes reconnecting with past passions can reignite a sense of purpose. Additionally, trying out new experiences or learning new skills can help discover new interests and goals.
Finding a supportive community or seeking professional guidance, such as therapy or counseling, can also provide valuable support and assistance in navigating through this period of transition.
Remember to be patient and kind to yourself throughout this process. It's okay to take small steps and to seek help when needed. You're not alone in this journey, and there are resources and people who can support you along the way.
I feel you. There was a time I felt like that. I went through life trying to find motivation for thing but through other people. My wife wanted to read so I read. My brother wanted to hunt so I hunted. Everyone around me seemed to have goals and dream yet I just wanted to survive.
during my journey I over did it with wanting to do stuff to find my way. Needless to say I have a garage full of stuff I will probably never use. I purchased these things based on what I “liked” as a youth. As I practiced self discovery and past trauma I realized much of what I was doing was bringing my past to my present. I used to work on cars because we couldn’t afford a mechanic not because I liked it. I now own mechanic tools, I learned to weld with abusive uncles who only kept me around to help work, I own a welder (I am laughing at myself now as I write this). Slowly as I pulled the layers away I found my passion/s I now spend time with my family, going outdoors, reading books, listening to audiobooks, CrossFit. I have begun the process of slowly getting ready for retirement even though it’s a long time away. But if I have everything I need hobby wise I will be set and not be retired doing nothing. I learn I love learning especially through experience. Once I was able to separate my now from my past I have a whole new appreciation for what I want and why I want it.
what do you enjoy? When was the last time you were somewhere and just smiled because you were happy? What were you doing? Who were you with? Self discovery can be fun and fulfilling. Best of luck on your journey, you are not alone.
