Procrastination

As a student, as a person really, I procrastinate a lot. I procrastinate about doing assignments, cleaning my room, responding to people, having hard conversations, deadlines of any kind basically. It's gotten so debilitating and I feel like I'm broken. Every time I do a method that is meant to help, I just feel worse off. Maybe I'm just checked out since it's almost the end of the school year. But maybe I'm a record snapped in two.

If anyone is dealing with something similar I'd love to talk about it. I'm told all the time that I'm making a big deal out of nothing or that I just need to "sit down and do it" and I feel useless for not being able to, or at least not efficiently being able to.

Lots of love, goodnight 7Cups!!

I think a lot of us get stuck in our heads and feeling overwhelmed so you're not alone at all.

For me it helps to make lists and then prioritise them in order of urgency and how complicated or easy they are.

I might break it into sections, focus, take a break, focus and so forth and then afterwards I bask in the sense of relief that it's accomplished and I praise myself for it.

Well done, that was tiring but you did it, go you or when I have that break and downtime, I feel like I really earned it and feel proud of myself :)

@ScrabbleBrain That sounds like a great idea! I don't have a lot of motivators besides my own accountability anymore so this sounds like a good kick to get to feeling accomplished!

@PassinateListener Hiya! I'm so glad you could find connection in my post, I'm sorry you relate to this though. Super frustrating to deal with right? I really just try my best and give myself grace, pushing through the mental block is too hard for me sometimes so I let people know. Talking it out helps me a lot, maybe give it a shot? 😁❤️

@Lonely4Flower

Hey flower, (Is "flower ok?),

You come to the right place. First off, I'd like to encourage you not to get discouraged. The fact that you are here and that you're asking the right questions and just the fact that you want to improve is proof positive that you will.... If you stay at it. 😊.

From personal experience, I do understand how easy it is to give in to a sense of.... Like whatever, giving up, being overwhelmed, what's the point, etc etc. That is a big wide road to feeling Inadequate or even depressed.

The people that are telling you not to make a big deal of it, Put your hand up to them! It is a big deal. If we could just, sit down and do it, Like duh, WE Would!

So first of all, I would suggest that you listen to yourself. You know what you need to do to make yourself feel good. It's not that you can do it or it's going to be easy but don't let anybody discourage you from trying to get things done. You know what needs to get done so you can move forward.

I don't wanna make this too long winded but if you want to talk more about this, I'd be glad to keep an eye on your thread.

I'll give you something to think about before I leave. There is no "one" Solution or reason to your daily inability to stay the course. So this can be a long journey of self discovery and it starts off with very little steps Or techniques. And something else that is important to consider, is the technique that you use today or that you come up for yourself That seems to work Will eventually grow old and that seems not to work anymore. That's just good old plain monotony. That's nothing you're doing wrong.

Different, refreshing techniques Will help you with the little accomplishments that will make you feel better and stronger about yourself. The objective for yourself is to come up with something on a weekly or daily basis that reminds you or help you to move forward. If something works one day repeat it until it doesn't seem to have the same power it did, previousy. I have So many stories I could tell you of all the games I did myself too get my bed made 🤣.... seriously. Now it just fits into my day with little effort... but still effort is needed, much easier now. 😉

So that's the physical Side of things and and then there's the emotional or psychological side of things which is another story. We can talk more about that later if you want.

So, Like I said earlier, It is a big deal, because your future Is doable and possible And you can do it one step at a time. Especially Someone Like You, that's trying to figure it out. You got this.

As a fellow student struggling with procrastination, it is hard. Seeing everyone around you being able to get things done. But my teacher once said to me that it doesn't happen overnight for everyone. Everyone reacts to things differently and for him, and he also struggled with procrastination. I've found that for myself, it's easier to slow down and do things little by little. I will be honest, lately it's been an immense struggle for me too, as it's nearing the end of the school year, but we will pull through. I'm always open to talk!!
