Weekly sharing of Goals! Week #42 (Monday 10/16/23 - Sunday 10/22/23)
I welcome anyone to commit to a goal here today.
But more importantly, talk about getting it done or why it didn't happen today.
To praise each other for our efforts and wins.
While supporting each other through trials and setbacks.
And to continue trying and not give up.
Remember:
Every Goal should be considered "Worthy".
 Never belittle your achievements and be proud of yourself for your daily accomplishments!
Whether they be Complex or Simple.
Getting out of bed is a good day..... Good job I say!
Share your goals today, for support and encouragement.

I've added a "soft" tag list to this thread because I start a new thread every week and it gets lost sometimes. Anyone that is interested in following and interacting might not be able to find it so I hope this helps. It's a soft tag list because it's not permanent. It will fluctuate with activity and requests. Agreeing or requesting to be on this tag list will keep you on. If I got you on here by accident, please let me know because it's supposed to be a helpful thing and not an intrusion.
Here's to a Fresh Start
You Can Do It!
@IsayUncle
I love the connection here with you and everyone who has joined us. It's great to have a group of people who are working together independently but encouraging and supporting each other together.
I like the idea of slowing down. It is good to listen to yourself when you need to do that. I'm so glad to be able to be here to support you.
I'm not ready to slow down yet, because I am actually on a good progress with writing what I need to write, and I just started on a personal internal exploration of my thoughts, feelings, decisions and actions. I always want to continue to grow and learn. I'm doing a lot of learning, but I especially want to grow personally right now as well. So I'm creating my own path of exploration and continued healing.
@CyclingThroughLife
Sometimes this time of the year is a challenge just because so many things seem to happen or need to be addressed or planned. Depending upon where you live, the weather can be a factor. Here it is already growing cold and dreary outside, which means working harder to be focused at times and wanting to veg more.
Is there anything that you do when you're feeling like you are sliding backwards that helps stop the slide or that helps you to get the wheels turning forward again? Favorite things perhaps? Self-kindness?
@KristenHR
I always love it when you show up and use the inclusive word "us". That's just some great support, thanks so much.
I'm kind of excited to hear that you're not ready to slow down right now and on a good progress run. To be in a good frame of mind for learning and healing is fantastic. Being on the path to personal exploration sounds really good but sometimes it could be a little bit painful. Be sure to give yourself plenty of grace with room to grow and learn. It sounds like you're eager to enjoy the journey and that is a beautiful thing! Good for you and keep it up! It's inspirational. Thanks for sharing.
WOW.... Week 42 of 52. Last week was rough for me AND THANK YOU all so very much for your support. It helped a lot. In reflection and overall, I did pretty well. My goal this week is just to try to finish cleaning up my little messes and get back to a good starting point.
Realizing that there is only 10 weeks left to this year, I'm already slowing down my personal goals for the year because I know with the holidays coming up, a lot of time will be used for relaxing and interacting with others in the best of times but in the worst of times the holidays often bring depression and inactivity.
I'm sharing my feelings about this because it's important to be OK with myself, yourself and ourselves by not putting too much on our plates in the coming weeks and months.
@IsayUncle
Getting back to a good starting point sounds like a good idea. I think I could use that also. This week, for me, I think I'm just going to do what needs to be done for household chores, and not actually set goals outside of my workouts and bike challenge. I feel like I'm sliding backward into a funk, and I can't quite put my finger on what is causing it or why. As far as work is concerned, my goal is to try to have a little stress as possible by controlling my reactions to the events and things that cause me stress.

The above was my the daily morning motivation that was on my app this morning. I really need to learn to apply this to my life. I guess you can call it a "long term goal".
I like your idea of not putting too much on our plates with the upcoming holiday season. Holidays can be stressful to many of us for many different reasons so not being hard on yourself is a big thing. Thank you for sharing your feelings on that and your idea. I really like it and am going to apply it to my life.
Thanks for continuing to post these. It is helpful to me. I really appreciate the opportunity to interact in this setting.
@CyclingThroughLife
Thanks for being such a strong member to this thread. All your upvotes yesterday really helped me out a lot. I didn't have a lot of time last week or I should say energy to write too much but I must say I was pretty impressed with your 13,000 mile *** friendship milage quest.
Navigating around those migraines must be pretty frustrating but you said before that you've been doing it for a long time and I suppose we do adapt to our obstacles. But still, I'm really sorry you gotta deal with them. I know sometimes you just wanna bust out-of-that-box... HooRah!
About sliding back into a funk and not being able to put your finger on it. I might suggest to let it happen, kind of, but not too much. Feel the funk let it come and then let it go and hopefully it helps you with a refreshed outlook. The Alison Levine quote is spot on - classic truth. I have a problem following it because of my knee jerk responses to things without thoughtful application and then after I jerk my knee and knee myself in the nose it's too late to fix things. Ugggh!. But I also aspire to remember the spirit of the quote and apply it to things. It's a good one😉 (thanks for the reminder.)
Have a good day!
hi everyone. I am new to this thread.
My goal for this week is to work on all the things on my to-do list and feel good about myself without stressing over the things that have been bothering me for a long.🌸
@dona14
Welcome to the thread. I wish you well and send good vibes for you to accomplish everything on your to do list. I don't always get in to comment or post words of support, but I will definitely read all the updates and click the "heart upvote" to show my support for your accomplishments, as well as those goals you don't quite make.
@CyclingThroughLife Thank You so much. Your words means a lot
@dona14
Welcome and thanks for jumping in. Please feel free to share any aspect or any approach for the things that you are trying to do or for the things that are making you feel bad for not doing. That's what this thread is for.
I've had a couple of mumble jumbled weeks myself and like cycle said earlier, can't quite put my finger on it but I do know it helps to talk about it so feel free to splurge away.
I thought I had today figured out or actually this whole week and then this morning, my working partner is all excited that he found another job uggggh! Seriously stress city. We were all set for several weeks with little pressure and then he throws this wrench in the spokes arrrrgh.
Have a good day and do well. (I'll try to do the same)
@IsayUncle Hey just recovering from a breakup. Some Days are way more painful than I EVER IMAGINED. So just trying to cope with it and achieve everything I dream of. Thank you for acknowledging the text tho.
@dona14
P.S. Even though I'm the author of this thread you don't have to talk just with me (but you can). We all try to talk with each other and share different points of views. So.... get comfortable and feel free to share and join in on any conversation. Really looking forward to your insights too. 😊
@dona14
Welcome!
I love to do lists. I'm working on one myself. Do you have a plan that you typically do with managing to accomplish your to do list? I'm curious because I love hearing how others are able to conquer their to do lists.
@KristenHR heyy.. thankyou
Just trying to take one day at a time and not pressure myself to finish everything together and i guess i just have to work on my procrastination😅. How do you do it?
I'm a list guy also. Its not so much that I forget what's on it, although as I age my mind isn't what it used to be lol...it's more of a it feels darn good to cross things off....that feeling of accomplishmenr....also, I find it helps keep my jumbled mind in some sort of order.
Remove broken hydraulic line.
@IsayUncle
You seem to have a terrible issue with your equipment and hydraulics....I commend you for sticking with it because I would have given up a long time ago......
@CyclingThroughLife
Thanks. It's really just the nature of these beasts. Luckily these machines aren't real complicated and busted hydraulic lines are pretty common and not too hard to repair. But it really is a bummer and a pain in the b*** when it happens. No choice but to repair and keep going.
Talking about giving up, TBH, and not being smart, moving forward past your migraines is a powerful discipline. I believe that would shut me down and keep me down a lot! I'm really impressed how you push through them when you can.
PS.... how many miles is 60 minutes on the spin bike?
Depending on the type of class, drills I do, and resistance on the bike it can vary. Today was light resistance at a high cadence to crank out as many miles as I could. I managed 22.65 miles today.
And thank you for the kind words about pushing through my migraines. It's difficult at times. I should not work through them like I do all the time, but I cannot afford to take time off work because of them. I can't say I'm used to it, but I know how to navigate it so I can function on really bad days, if that makes sense....
@IsayUncle
Are they fixed? You made it sound so easy in the post below, but I'd be clueless. lol
@KristenHR
I did get it removed and brought it to the shop to have a new one made. But I haven't put the new one on yet. I'll probably do that for sure today or tomorrow. Thanks for asking.
How's all your curriculums going. Do you actually get on Ted talks and do seminars?
My goal is to just get through this week by studying for 2 midterms. School has been very stressful lately and I'm just trying to pull it together and not let my grades slip.
@YSC1
Head down, Hold fast, Push through it, You can do it. Work through this week the best you can between the stressors. Is the school work the stressors or is it outside forces invading your space?
Thank you!! For now it's just school stress. I'm a senior, so I'll be graduating this year. There is just a lot of things to think about, including getting a job after graduating. Nothing else is going on in my life. I'm trying to change that. I'm trying to go events and stuff. But I guess it's good in a way, there's no drama in my life.
@YSC1
You sound very level headed and just steadily plodding forward. I applaud you for not getting sucked into a lot of wasted drama which equals wasted time. Sometimes we just wanna get out there and break free, fly like a free bird. Trust me, it sounds a lot more glorious than it actually is. LOL. Do try to get out and have some fun though.
Did you finish your studies for midterms, and did you have to take your midterms this week or when are they?
Yes, over the last few days, I've pondered on why I always think my life would be better if I had more friends or that I'm missing something in my life and that would be going out more. They're all external. It's the inside that counts. The objective is to do what I want to do. If I want to have fun, then great, I should look to do something fun. But not because I want an external stimulant. So I have to figure out what "fun" means for me. That shouldn't be TOO difficult. :)
I'm still studying for midterms, ended taking off half of yesterday because of my mom's birthday. But I'm at it again because my midterms are this week. One of them is on Tuesday and the other two are on Friday.
@YSC1
How's the studying going?
It's getting there. My mom's birthday was yesterday and we are celebrating something else today. So it's been pretty slow. But yesterday, I managed to do a few practice exams for one of the midterms. They weren't bad, I just made some silly mistakes. I should be able to do some practice exams for the other two midterms today. Hopefully I'll also make less silly mistakes on the practice exams for the first midterm today. Thanks for asking! :)
Hello! I'm new to this thread but I love the idea behind it. I'm unsure if I'm doing this correctly haha, but my goal for this week is to spend time doing more community service. I've been limiting myself to once about every two weeks but I'd like to start doing it once a week because I just enjoy it!
@listeningbuddy00
"I just enjoy it".... I love that! I have 2 words for ya. DO IT!
Thanks for sharing, that was great.
@listeningbuddy00
Sounds great. I love volunteering. It feels good inside. Glad you're here and joining in.
I continued my workout challenge today. I did 30 miles on the bike path today. I was tested today at work and I reacted poorly. I caused myself more stress than I needed and I'm kind of angry at myself for it. I shouldn't let people get to me that way and let it bother me. I am supposed to be working on how I react.....and I failed todays test. I have written about things in these forum posts(not just this one but a few others) here in the last two weeks about what I can do and how I can react to certain situations and deal with stress. Today, when the time came, I totally forgot everything I had written. I'm upset with myself, to say the least.
Enough about me, I hope all of you are getting your things done. I'm sending good vibes and thoughts all your way......have a great night.....
@CyclingThroughLife
You too. Great job on the 30 miles. So is that like, 56 miles total towards the 13000 challange. Tell me it ain't so Joe. haha.
About the other thing.... knee jerk responses and brain muscle memory causes a lot of that to happen. It takes time to train and you know a lot about training. You being aware of it and working on it is 98% of the battle. Sorry you lost yesterday's skirmish but try again tomorrow and do a little bit better if you can. I know you can.
I have a default socially destructive behavior (not sinister or bad in that manner). It is as obvious to me as the nose on my face but trying to wrap my head around the solution is just baffling me. So that feeling of frustration when it rears itself is all too familiar.
Be well my friend and have a good day tomorrow.
Happy Friday morning. I'm finally getting the opportunity to sit in front of the laptop and catch up on 7 cups. The weather is actually nice enough in the middle of October that I can have my morning coffee and 7 cups fix on the porch while the everyone else is still asleep.
This has been another hectic few days for me at work. It seems like every time I started a task that I needed done, someone would need something or want something that couldn't wait, or I would have to "go put out someone elses fire", causing me to have to rush my own work in the end. This type of work is very stressful for me. I like to start and finish one thing at a time. Its not that I can't multi-task, it that I DON'T WANT TO multi-task. Sometimes its just too much....so that was the rest of my work week.
As far as reaching my personal goals for the week at home, I have hit the mileage I wanted to for my bike challenge, and workout goals I have set for the week. I really didn't set any other "to do" lists or goals for around the house. I decided I would just take them as they came, I did, and things are status quo....Moving forward, I should try to set a goal to spend more time on 7cups. It seems the last couple of weeks, I scroll the app on the phone, upvote things and never really get to sit and type out good, solid, support posts or reply to people like I want to. My days off work, coffee time, right now...is when I usually get that in. Just know that I do read your posts throughout the week and send out good vibes and support into the universe.
Since we are discussing goals, here are a few things I would like to get done on my days off:
Laundry needs to washed, folded and put away
Get in two more good spin rides, at least an hour, today and tomorrow
Look at my finances and accounts. My son wants to go on an overseas trip with the school so I am always looking for ways to move money around to make this happen. Every little bit of savings will help.
While I don't like to set time aside to be unproductive, when there are little things I could be doing, I am off work again this Sunday so I think I'm going to set some time aside this weekend to binge watch some television. Not sure yet what that may be but I think I need some time to do nothing.
@CyclingThroughLife
I love that you are taking some down time and all that you have accomplished is awesome as well.
I have a volunteer who went for a month oversees to volunteer and she had an amazing time. I hear it's a really growing opportunity when it's something like that or educational.
Good morning,
Just wanted to check in to see how everyone is doing toward their goals. Like I stated yesterday, I'm not working toward much this weekend. Laundry was washed and dried yesterday, will be folded and put away today. I will look at the finances later this morning after my hour on the spin bike and after that, I think I will do nothing this afternoon and tomorrow if I can help it. The weather is calling for moderate to heavy rains all day. Some terrible downpours. Perfect day to put my feet up in my chair and do much of nothing. Here's hoping it works out that way.
I want everyone else to keep pushing forward toward your goals. Post your progress or lack of there of. Lack there of doesn't make one a failure, it makes us human, so keep your head up. I keep the following as a reminder for my health/wellness/fitness journey, but you can apply it to every aspect of your life.....

@CyclingThroughLife
Sometimes I just love rainy days. As much of my work is outdoors, it really gives me a free pass not to go to work. Ha ha.
I'm also easing up on my writing a list for my daily obligations. There was a time I seriously needed to do that to function but now actually it seems to be clouding up my momentum a little bit. I'm starting to think about it like, to do my daily obligations is a goal in itself and just do them with that mindset and if I start falling behind then I'll have to start writing them down again.
I'm really sorry your job is the bane of your existence but the security of it and the security of a larger retirement is really worth working for and that's what you're doing. You're doing great to be able to maintain that.
I did a stupid thing with my bus driving job and got fired a couple days ago. Private and personal no kids were on the bus or anything like that. I was just running some errands with the bus that I wasn't supposed to. I forgot how small my town was, bunch of little tattle tails.
@IsayUncle
"Sometimes I just love rainy days. As much of my work is outdoors, it really gives me a free pass not to go to work." Yesterday and today(I took another sunday off because I was able to) have been great. I've done nothing but sit in front of the television with my feet up. Bad weather days tend to make me want to do this. I usually feel bad about not doing anything, but these last few days, not so much.
"I'm really sorry your job is the bane of your existence but the security of it and the security of a larger retirement is really worth working for and that's what you're doing." I appreciate your compassion and support for me while I work through this time in my career. Thanks for the support.
"I did a stupid thing with my bus driving job and got fired a couple days ago. Private and personal no kids were on the bus or anything like that. I was just running some errands with the bus that I wasn't supposed to." I'm sorry you got fired. I hope you are able to make up the money elsewhere. Is there a positive that can out of this negative? Less stress because of less work? Again, I'm not trying to make light of the situation, being let go is never fun and is mostly hurtful, I'm just trying to see if there is a way to spin it positive.
I've been a very negative person the last few years. Based on what was going on in my career, I would let it carry on at home and after work and I've become very bitter about a lot of things in life. I made a choice to try to find more positivity in the things around me, especially things I dislike. So as far as goals go, I will be adding this to my list of things when you post for upcoming weeks. Earlier in the week I applied to be a "Forum Supporter" in the "Work and Career" community and was accepted. My first check in as a Forum Supporter over there was, even though your work environment may be negative, to find something about your job that you like. I want everyone reading to feel free to stop over and join in.
@CyclingThroughLife
Thanks for your comments and support. I've been self-employed a large part of my life and having that job as a backup was very nice because there is no preparation and follow up and all the behind the scenes stuff about self-employment. That's not completely true because there was a lot of unpaid paperwork to do with the students but mostly it was just about punching in and punching out.
On the positive side of things, I should be able to find enough side work to triple my weekly income. But again, with that comes a lot of extra work. If my side work don't work out where I can keep my bills up I did manage to get my CDL-A license and I should be able to make good money as a truck driver if that's the way I wanna go. I'm not in a jobless desert on the positive but on the bummer side is that I just don't feel like working that hard anymore.
That's great becoming a forum supporter. Trying to help others helps keep our own balance sometimes and it's great when we can say or do something that makes someone else feel better or think differently. Go ahead and tag me with your post, I'll be glad to check you out.
