I welcome anyone to commit to a goal here today.

But more importantly, talk about getting it done or why it didn't happen today.

To praise each other for our efforts and wins.

While supporting each other through trials and setbacks.

And to continue trying and not give up.

Remember:
Every Goal should be considered "Worthy".
Never belittle your achievements and be proud of yourself for your daily accomplishments!
Whether they be Complex or Simple.
Getting out of bed is a good day..... Good job I say!

Share your goals today, for support and encouragement.

I've added a "soft" tag list to this thread because I start a new thread every week and it gets lost sometimes. Anyone that is interested in following and interacting might not be able to find it so I hope this helps. It's a soft tag list because it's not permanent. It will fluctuate with activity and requests. Agreeing or requesting to be on this tag list will keep you on. If I got you on here by accident, please let me know because it's supposed to be a helpful thing and not an intrusion.

Here's to a Fresh Start
You Can Do It! We Can Do It!

I'm planting 4 quick seeds to talk about this week if you want to. I was hoping to have time to write my own thoughts on these but I've run out of time this morning. I'm gonna do the most important one first because it has to do with a member I think is struggling with motivation and purpose.

@Gettingbettertoday posted the following last week, "I am still working on finding goals that are not meaningless to me"
A shout out to @Gettingbettertoday, thanks for bringing up a very good point. How are you doing this week? have you figured anything out?

1) My query to everybody: is it important for a goal to have meaning? I wanna steer this query towards the time when I was very depressed and really had no purpose to do anything and so my goals really had no meaning but I knew I needed to do them, if that makes any sense.

When we have our balance it's easy to make goals with exact meaning and purpose but what do we do when we're off balance?

2) Remember the holidays are coming so don't put so much on your plate and don't get too discouraged with the added obligations. Only seven weeks to go for a new year.

3) I was talking with @KristenHR about lists and she made me see them from a different perspective. What do you all think about these four different kinds of lists and how they intertwine with each other?
1)
A Checklist | 2) A To Do list | 3) An Obligation list. 4) A "I'd rather do" list

How important are lists for you on a daily basis?

Talk with you all later and I hope we all have a great week.

@IsayUncle

I'm copying the questions so I'll be able to answer them each.

1) My query to everybody: is it important for a goal to have meaning? I wanna steer this query towards the time when I was very depressed and really had no purpose to do anything and so my goals really had no meaning but I knew I needed to do them, if that makes any sense.

I do think that at times when struggling, the goal of doing something is to keep going so that feeling worse or dropping lower doesn't happen.  The goal might be meaningless in the large scope of things, but yes, I think goals, even what me might call "pitiful" ones, have a purpose and meaning in the long run.

When we are off balance?  Just holding on and doing what needs to be done is the goal and the purpose.  Each goal set, even to perhaps as basic as getting in the shower, getting dressed and eating are goals to help move us forward in coping.

2) Remember the holidays are coming so don't put so much on your plate and don't get too discouraged with the added obligations. Only seven weeks to go for a new year.

How do you find the holidays?  Are they something you look forward to?  Is this a time of the year you struggle with?  If you find them difficult, is there a new tradition you can set for you this year?

3) I was talking with @KristenHR about lists and she made me see them from a different perspective. What do you all think about these four different kinds of lists and how they intertwine with each other?
1)
 A Checklist | 2) A To Do list | 3) An Obligation list. 4) A "I'd rather do" list

How important are lists for you on a daily basis?

I already shared how they are important for me and how they intertwine in another post, so I shall defer to others on this one.  But I will say that on my day off, I have no obligatory lists unless there is an emergency or a doctor appointment.

@plantedreject

Your bio said that you wanna better yourself with what's available to you. I think that's a great viewpoint and approach.

Was there anything special on your list that you really wanted to or needed to get done?

Nothing special. Normal housework stuff, but I did want to take time out to practice playing the guitar and learning new things. That was on my list.

@plantedreject

That all sounds pretty casual and what a nice ending if you can practice with the guitar. Very cool, Enjoy!

It may take all week before I can sit and actually answer the questions in your post, but I will get it done at some point.  I'm continuing on with my bike challenge, the usual household, have to be done, chores, and that is about it.  If you don't mind, I have something I'd like to ask and put out for discussion also.  Do you consider everyday, have to be done, household chores goals for your list?  Things like laundry, grocery, cleaning, dishes, etc?  I'm sure for some people they may be part of a task oriented goals list.  For others, just things that need to be done.  I used to write them all down and check them off because it made me feel good like I was actually accomplishing something.  Then, one day out of the blue, I thought to myself, and this is just for me....these aren't really "goals"....these are things that need to be done....adult things I have to do to get by.....so that is the attitude I took and stopped writing them down and just started doing them.....Where do you fall when it comes to that stuff and if it doesn't get done, does it really bother you or do you think like my mother used to say..."the laundry will be there tomorrow....go do what you want/need to do today"

@CyclingThroughLife

Yea, I should have put a disclaimer in there saying that I knew we were all are very busy and those questions were more food for thought and things that were just going through my mind.

About the list though, I just went through the same thing as you and that's one of the reasons I brought up the subject of lists. I had become psychologically trapped and unable to function unless I wrote something down to do. I have been enjoying these last two weeks just trying to focus on the everyday stuff and pay attention to it without a list and and getting it done without having to write it down to do it. It was kind of a big step for me. As important as lists are, I think at some point it became a bit of a deterrent for me...... (for the small stuff) BUT in the moment of need, they were vital to me for regaining my balance. I could have never done it without them. I'm glad we both seem to have grown past those for now.

And please don't worry about answering those questions. They were meant food for thought and to incite some casual conversation if the time allowed.

Actually, the one member that mentioned finding a meaningful goal was pretty pertinent. Any insights on that thought I would hope could lead do an improved or different outlook for @Gettingbettertoday or at least bring up some healing dialogue and discussion about the subject.

@CyclingThroughLife

I love that you are continuing your biking.

Great question on daily things.  I don't consider them goals unless I was in a bad space.  Those are just givens.  Adulting I call it.  haha

@CyclingThroughLife

I forgot to mention at @KristenHR got me into delving deeper into the importance of lists. She had brought up some good points that I hadn't considered before in regards to how she manages and works with her list which seems to be very effective I think.

About sideway pictures: or upside down pictures.

I actually have a Word document page for seven cups where I take notes and write things and edit things before I post them.

I had the same problem with pictures but then I learned that if I copied and pasted my pictures into my Word document and sized them down or whatever, they would post correct when I copied them from that document and pasted them into A 7-cups thread or reply. It's an around the elbow to get to the thumb kind of solution but it worked for me.

Happy Saturday.  This week has been a busy one for me.  As far as goals, I managed to accomplish everything at work that needed to be done this week.  At home, I have managed to continued to get my miles in on my spin bike to help my team in the distance challenge.  In all reality, that is really the only "hard" goal this week I have set.

My weekend.....It has been pretty much a mess.  First, work.  Due to short staffing, I will be working today, my day off.  I will take tomorrow off in its place.  I will be working not my normal shift, but second shift.  My normal Friday/Saturday days off weekend, will now be Friday/Sunday.  Splitting the consecutive days off has been a real pain in the neck.  And....I found out this morning, the guy I was working with today has called out sick.  So not only will I be working a different shift from what I'm used to, I will be working with whom ever gets stuck with the over time, they will probably be very angry and negative for getting mandated.  I really don't want to deal with that today being as I'm working on my day off.  I will attempt to keep a positive attitude and keep my head up.

At home goals this weekend.....Remember a while back I spoke about my back storm door latch being broken and one of my goals was to fix it?  And I never really did fix it because the parts didn't fit right. And I said I had time to do it later and I could put it off?  I sorta left it and continued on with life, with the goal of fixing it when I got around to it.  Well a some point Friday morning, my son went out and didn't latch the door properly when he left, the wind caught it and whipped it open, bent the hydraulic closer mechanism, and actually pulled it out of the frame causing the wood frame to crack.  So now I'm forced to fix it.  Yesterday afternoon was spent removing the old door and frame.  Of course, after starting and getting into the project, it was found out that the door was originally put in as a cob job and nothing came out or apart easy.  The other door was removed and new one was purchased.  My girlfriend told me her and her son would put it on while I was work today, to try to take some of the stress off of me.  We will see how that comes out.  If for some reason, they cannot get it on or on correctly, my goal for Sunday will be to get the door put on.

With all that said, my reminder for the day is......if you don't make one of your goals, that is ok, but we need to prioritize it for the next time because if you keep putting it off, you could end up with a bigger problem than if you had just taken the time to do it......

Anyway, I'm going to have my morning coffee in peace while everyone is still in bed and watch a couple episodes of my favorite cartoon.....Scooby Doo.......

Have a wonderful weekend folks
