Weekly sharing of Lofty Goals! Week #29 (Monday 7/17/23 - Sunday 7/23/23 )

I welcome anyone to commit to a goal here today.

But more importantly, talk about getting it done or why it didn't happen today.

To praise each other for our efforts and wins.

While supporting each other through trials and setbacks.

And to continue trying and not give up.

Remember:
Every Goal should be considered "Lofty".
Never belittle your achievements and be proud of yourself for your daily accomplishments, whether they be Complex or Simply getting out of bed..... Good job I say!

Share your goals today, for support and encouragement.

Yesterday was GOOD day! (And I did get all the dishes washed and kitchen cleaned at days end)

More house chores to-do but back to my side-job this morning for the entire day.

As I contemplate this week's goals I'm satisfied with the progress so far. I badly misjudged the size of my side job. It's going to be much more time consuming than what I anticipated.

Working by myself with the occasional helper, what I thought I could get done in one week will actually take me 2 or maybe even three weeks.

These are the type of miscalculations that can discourage us from reaching our goals and we just can't let that happen. I didn't fail, I'm not being a slacker, I wasn't stupid about nothing, I just wasn't as knowledgeable as I thought. The next two or three weeks can be considered an elbow grease college education, at the school of hard knocks to major in failure vs triumph.

I will definitely have to adjust next week's goals to accommodate a full time job for a couple weeks, probably with additional hours, but this week I will still try to finish all my goals except of course the side job.

Doing house chores at the expense of getting an early start on my side job. I'm a bit disappointed and discouraged. I still have to load some equipment onto the car but it is what it is and I just have to move forward.

@IsayUncle

I think your prior post says it, that your expectations didn't match the size of your goals, and you have a lot more before you than expected. I applaud all that you have accomplished and your recognition of all that you've done well.

Allowing yourself the grace to have these few extra minutes to reduce pressure on you upon returning home later can actually reduce some weight and stress later I would think. While it's a few extra steps and minutes on the start of your day, what might it mean for you as less steps on the end when you may be more tired or weary?

Let me say, I appreciate your knowledge of taking the extra time now, because you can't predict your future and the time that it will require today. I hope you have a great day. Congratulations on all that you shared on the post just before this one. You are quite wise to recognize all that you shared, and to be accepting of what you realized with self-kindness. I hope all who reads this will see the great way to give ourselves grace when we didn't anticipate how big our goals might require of our time and energy.

Thanks for asking IsayUncle. I've completed the outline of topics for the Trauma and Eating Disorder class, but I still need to write the homework assignments. Now that I'm completed the outline however, I realize that I can't really write the homework assignments until I write the curriculum for each session. I have however, jotted notes on what I'd like the homework questions to be or notes to remind me about the homework project, so that is completed.

The exciting part is that while writing out the outline, it inspired me to a future project in a similar area.

The quizzes or my continuing ed, I need to start this afternoon. If I focus, I'm in good shape to accomplish them by tomorrow night. That is, focus, is the key word. haha

Thanks for asking!!! Have a great weekend.

MY SIDE JOB IS ALL CONSUMING..... Broken equipment.... Daily planing and setbacks.... Gathering proper tools and equipment....

AND SO.... Today is Saturday and it is obvious that my side job is not gonna be done by Sunday. I am totally accepting of that it's a bigger job then I thought. That fact doesn't bother me too much.

But what does really bother me is all my personal stuff that is not getting done, piling up, nagging at me and etcetera. My hours are very long on my side job, from early morning to mid evening and I'm just way too tired to do anything else when I get home.

I will definitely try to mustard up enough strength to ketchup and hopefully lettuce have a small win.

Sun - 7:04am:
Below (in the small font) is my "goals list" that I commited to at the beginning of this week (#29).
I have more work to do today but I hope to take some time for reflection and accountability.

Primary Goal: So my primary goal for this week is to finish this basement sump system and finally get this monkey off of my back.
Other Goals: 1) Maintain daily order of kitchen. 2) Solve Insurance problem. 3) Retrieve Equipment. 4) Vacuum and Clean Floors. 5) Change and wash dog beddings. 6) Change and wash my beddings. 7) Do weekly laundry. 8) Plan and make weekly lunches. 9) Shave dog.
Bonus Goals: A) Continue shelves in workshops. B) Continue transmission repair for van. C) Bring other dog to vet. D) Re-Straw dog houses and kennel area.

The week has passed and I did not finish the subsystem. But I feel very good about how much I accomplished. I didn't procrastinate or get lazy. The job was much larger than I anticipated so I will continue it next week.

There's some good news in this week because of how much I worked on my side job, I thought everything else was going to pot. Upon review, I actually got a lot more done that I thought. (An advantage of making a list and trying to stick to it.... a reminder you did things easily forgotton)

I maintained daily order of my kitchen, I solved my insurance problem, I didn't retrieve my equipment but that's because they still needed it, I changed and washed the dog beddings and my own beddings, I did weekly laundry and I planned and made my daily lunches.

I didn't get everything done but upon reflection I got a lot more done than I thought. I was glad that I separated my other projects into a bonus goal category. I don't feel bad for not addressing those issues this week.

Some of the things that we don't think about when we plan goals and agendas and To Do Lists are the good things that happen that we didn't anticipate or even think about. It helps a lot to be thankful about those things at the end of our week because it's too easy to remember what went wrong and so easy to forget what was good, even if it was not part of our goals or to dos.

Couple of things that I am thankful for this week is that I was happy to meet a another member that also tries to plan and meet goals, so that was nice. Also unexpectedly, I was having some car problems and I was able to manage a work around. Not really fixing it but getting a little bit more time before I really have to address it. And then another biggie, was working with the students that I work with and how well they did this week while we tried to work on this sump system, learning how to read a tape measure and learning how to use new tools and stuff like that. That was uplifting.

I START TODAY with a little pep in my step, not because I finished all my goals but with grace I was blessed to be able to do well. AND I have the rest of the day to cntinue on..... like maybe get my dog shaved .... maybe. 😜

@IsayUncle

Happy new week! I love that you were able to see just how much you did accomplish, even though it wasn't everything for the week that you wanted to do, considering how much time your side job has been requiring.

I love that you showed yourself compassion for not completing every single goal and it seems like your goals this week are a little more aware of the complexity of the degree of responsibility that each goal takes from you. Way to go!

I'm hoping to accomplish mine by the end of the day with the commitments that I have, but I know that no matter what, I will be close, and that is closer than I was when I joined you on this journey.

I want to say thank you for your first post and the invitation to join. It has helped tremendously to have some accountability on these things that I really want to do. I need to do them, but they aren't on the highest priority list. So this is helping me to integrate them into a higher priority. Thank you for allowing others to join in this journey with you. I hope that others will take advantage of this because it has helped me and I feel so good about the progress I'm making on these, in addition to what my regular responsibilities are.

You're got this! Here's to a new week for you, and tomorrow I will figure out what my new goals look like.

I’m gonna send this big ole thank you right back to you. Thank you so very much for talking to me and encouraging me this week. It was extremely helpful and very nice.

I am tickled to death that you found this idea to be a pretty good one. I know even when I was talking to myself mostly; it was helpful to write it down and put it out there publicly and kind of commit to it so I was very excited when you chimed in. And thank you for such an encouraging post and positive sentiment. I LOVE IT!

It’s really good that you got close, and I mean super good. That seems to be such a motivator getting closer and closer even if we don’t quite finish so I am really happy for you. GREAT JOB! (But you still have 5 hours and 51 minutes)…… But it sounds like you did really good so maybe you can rest now.

For me? I’m going for my last gasp! Shave my dog. LOL πŸ˜…

YOU GOT THIS!
Looking forward to next week.
