Get it off your chest!
I have pure o and it really sucks. Am constantly second guessing myself. When I have an intrusive thought I feel anxious and fearful and just a sense of pure dread. I am almost always depressed and unhappy. My mind just keeps racing round and round and round . and I feel crazy like I'm losing my mind. I get really down in the dumps like nothing is going to bet better. The thoughts i have are things that I would never want to do in a million years. Never had any desire to do but for some reason my brain just throws them out there and it causes me intense guilt and shame and makes me feel like a monster. I have always wanted to help people never to harm them and then a few months ago I began having intrusive thoughts and since then my mind hasent shut up. Even when I'm with my family or my partner and I should be happy its like my mind won't quite down enough to allow me to enjoy the moment. I still want to help people but my mind tells me otherwise. I googled unwanted thoughts and came across a form of ocd known as pure o and it described what I'm going through perfectly. Now I'm trying to just take it one day at a time. It is really hard to live like this because it is torture to be stuck in my mind. But I have a supportive partner who at least trys to understand and in trying to stay positive. If anyone else feels the way I do then please know you are not alone. We all have problems. I feel alone but one day at a time and keep moving foward

I so hope you find some relief.
@Sjr. Thank you. I hope so too. I hope everyone on here can find some relief
@Havefaith68 Please don't feel alone either, because what's going on with you sounds like some of the things that I've been dealing with. Keep hanging on. All the best!
I ask the same question over and over because I forget. Having to check my door and window numerous times. Those are just a few examples.
It actually drives me crazy. Everything has to be in its place otherwise it works on my mind and I try so hard to let things go because it's in material but I just can't. All can goods are lined up in my kitchen cabinets according to there type. Counter tops not much on them less is best, I must clean my floors at least 2x a day. Laundry needs to be folded a certain way. OCD drains you and you waste so much of your life double checking yourself with everything !!! I hate it but I'm trying to get better I take one day at a time. 🙏🙏
@kittie3 I really hope you get better soon! All the best!
I really need help. First let me say that I'm a normal 22 year old woman. I have a science background with a passion for learning, music. I have a great family and friends. But I suffer from OCD since I was little. I am a hand washer and d with anxiety. Now it's really bad though and ruining my life.
Its ruined my life, I have ocd but with my face , I'm afraid for any kind of bacteria to touch my face and I always need it clean, before I had it I loved to cook but now I don't cook because of the heat and oil on the pan, I use to workout 4 times a day now I don't becusI'm scared for sweat on my face, when I have good days I feel like its over with but when I have bad days they lead me to depression and anxiety, and anger towards myself, I won't go out for a week becus I don't want make up on my face, and I'm impatient and angry becus i want to go out and enjoy my life so bad but when I feel this way its holding me back and I can't control it. I'm loseing everything, my confidence the most, all started becus I was scared of getting pimples on my face and years later im here
I have to keep repeating things over and over again in my head. And I have all these little compulsions that I do. Like writing something over and over or repeating something out loud, or crossing my legs a certain way. Most of them are about my weight or appearance, and I always check myself in mirrors and compare myself to others. And feel my body to make sure I'm not gaining weight. And I'm afraid it is spreading to my self harm, now that is becoming a compulsion.
I have to repeat thoughts over and over again in my head as well and I have the writing thing as well which really affects my school life as a lot of the writing in my school books have crossing out even though there was nothing wrong with it. @greenPlum164
@BritishRaccoon I really relate to what you have mentioned in your post.
@greenPlum164 thanks for sharing I have OCD since I was 15 and now 31 and I can identify with parts of your post. My OCD is very much thought based, going over and over plans, ideas, questions and trying to organise them to come up with the perfect "plan". I get intrusive thoughts about being a bad person, hurting other people and also disturbing images come into my mind. I can also get obsessed with seeing signs and connection in things. I can also understand what you say about the self harm and how the OCD kind of latches onto it and it becomes part of the ritual - what's great is that you are recognising this is happening and that it is the OCD which is the first step to challenging it. I just want to say to all of you here there is hope with OCD in my twenties I got to the point where my OCD was under control; I still had it but I felt able to quickly evaluate if a thought needed to be "trashed" and avoid the accompanying ritual - there is hope and strategies that can help so hang in there :-)
@greenPlum164
Tw? I have had problems with self harm and I still do, and I think that OCD is maybe becoming a part of it/already is a part of it. I don
OCD effects everything I do. It has gotten so bad, I no longer can leave my house without spending the entire day 'getting ready' trapped in vicious time consuming rituals.. I lost my business because I could no longer get there to open up untill after 2pm. Since closing, my cumpulsive behavior has gottwn worse making it immpossible for me to book dr appts before 4pm. I wake up early but still cant actually leave my house till I get myself ready and complete my rituals. No psych meds have seemed to help with my OCD. And I take alot of meds! I develop new obsessions constantly. Like, lately after I eat anything I have to immediately scrub my hands and nails, brush and floss my teeth, splash water in my eyes and nose and clean my ears? Its ridiculous.. I feel trapt.. I have watched 3 seasons go by from inside the confines of my house..
i have to do a lot of things to the number 23; for example, i : i touch a wall for 23 seconds and if i don't get it right i will have to do something 23 times like tap my head or slap my hand or touch the wall or call a friend and hang up... it really gets in the way of my every day life because of the amount it affects me. It sounds so small compared to everyone elses problems but i struggle with it. It gets in my way almost constant;y. I also suffer from depression and i have no motivation to do anything other than what my OCD makes me do. I barely ever leave my bed.
Moving this to our shiny, new OCD / BFRB forum! :)
It makes me sad for no reason.Even when there isnt anything to be upset about,i feel sad.
