WHY ARE THESE DEFINITIONS SO DIFFERENT. THIS IS A FORUM SPECIFICALLY FOR TALKING ABOUT THE STRUGGLES OF OCDAND THE INCORRECT PUBLIC VIEW OF THIS DISORDER 😆
Hey guys! I ask that you guys support me in getting more resources for those struggling with OCD such as a self help guide on the site. Do so by messaging Laura and telling her you are from OCDLena's forum and you are in support of my idea of getting more OCD help!! Thanks guys. Continue to share lovelies. I want to hear from you guys whenever. You can post everyday on here if you want!!
I hate people making jokes on OCD. I tried to talk to some people about it, and they said "you mean that thing that makes you select odd numbers and wash your hands?"....I also hate when I hear phrases like "oh this room is so disordered I have OCD!" ...what the fuck
Hey Guys!! I hope everyone is doing good! Anyone have anything to share about OCD?
I have a question: Can you develop OCD that is connected to food, or that is more like developing an eating disorder ? Because I want to be extra thin and I feel anxiety all the time about my body and can't stop thinking about it, I exercise on daily basis too much and I don't even know why I think I'm fat and why I want to be thin.Idk, I'm scared...
That definitely seems more like an eating disorder but it is alot like an obssesion and you can definitly feel free to talk about it here
Hey guys, so I know i just went back to school, and i hear all the time "I am so OCD". I was hoping that people would realize how upsetting and demeaning of the people suffering form this disorder. Is anyone else that just went back to school getting kind of upset. Keep this forum alive guys, I WANT TO HEAR YOUR BEAUTIFUL VOICE! XD
I'm coming back to school in less than one month, and it is the first year that I come back to school knowing that I have OCD. I don't know why, but it frightens me.
"Why are the definitions so different?" Well, one of them came from urban dictionary:)
Haha, that is true, i guess my point was jsut that people should always associate OCD as a serious disorder that affects peoples live in major ways and not just use it liek they do.
Urban dictionary is never completely accurate on definitions. What it is good for is figuring out a public view of things. The point is that people see OCD as something of a joke. I have OCD and it is frustrating when I tell people and they think it isn't something that is real. I wish we could educate people on the seriousness of this illness.
I wish there was a room to talk about OCD...I think a lot of people could benefit from it.
I've definitely noticed the lines become blurred about mental illness
Just like - people become nervous. They can feel anxious. That does not mean they suffer through anxiety.
Everyone just takes a basic idea of what something is to self-diagnose ... and use it humorously to justify their "normal" characteristics. What this does - is discredits and creates a false view on those who really do have to manage through their OCD every day of their lives.
"I love my office space neat, I'm so ocd. lool" ....... when in reality, OCD is not a joke. No one coughs and laughs, "haha my bad, I have lung cancer". People are bizarre like that.
That is a very unique finding though! A very vital observation. I appreciate you sharing! Thank you!

That's a striking analogy, @brightVibes999. It really highlights how daft it sounds. The "I'm so OCD" comment used to really bother me. These days, if I overhear something like that, I do my best to help the person understand why it's an inappropriate comment (depending on the situation and if the person cares about learning). It still bugs me on the grammar-front though. If anything, it should be, "I'm so obsessive-compulsive."
You're an advocate for the truth and therefore, reality. And yes! Through a grammatical perspective it makes absolutely no sense. It's basically become a slang phrase. "I'm so OCD" - it's generational. Maybe? I'll advocate by your side, amongst others, I'm sure. We need more people out there putting out real information about the mental illnesses that many people cope with - how else can we ever hope to understand each other and coexist?
I just love what you said. Thanks for adding something amazing to the forum. I really apprecaite it. Please continue to discuss in this forum.
Thank you kindly! And, again, thank you for this thread(: ... pretty intriguing to bring up!
It's just sad seeing "definitions" like that. OCD isn't always "being clean", often it's more messy.
Hi guys anyone has ideas on dealing with intrusive thoughts cause I keep thinking of overdosing on my antidepressants to take away thoughts of chopping of my toe ARGHH. does anyone else feel like they need a lot of information about someone and Google their therapists or counsellors? Seriously I feel I can be a PI already. I'm afraid to tell my therapists what if they fear me cause they feel I'm a crazy stalker
