I appreciate you for trying this with me … since we are on our own thread now, you can call me by my real name, Tom. Of course I support you (or anyone) wanting to be called any name of their choosing.

As promised, here’s the first part of my journey in English literature. (Feel free to ask me anything you want 😊)

I hated my English courses in high school. They were so boring and confusing. But when I arrived at university, the professors taught me how to take notes and write a proper essay. After my first year, I was so inspired that I decided to be a high school English teacher. Plus, I was so resentful that my high school didn’t teach me the way that my professors taught. I said to myself that no student of mine was going to miss out on the education that I didn’t get.

The education program gave me a purpose and a direction to my life. When I started college, I didn’t know what I wanted to study, and I graduated with a teaching license and was ready for a professional career. Those years of learning and study were the best I have ever received.

I feel like high school just taught us how to cram for exams. Only a few teachers made things feel practical.

I’m really happy that you found your path! But after reading your story, I’m still kinda lost. I love language, art, and law, but..

Law seems too stressful (I'll be very sick when stress)

Art feels too unpredictable. What if I run out of inspiration?

Language worries me because of limited career options (I don’t wanna be a teacher)

Did you take a gap year after high school, or did you go straight to university?

Oops … I should have labeled the above experience, Part 1 … because there is more!

To answer your question, though, Yes I did take a gap year. And I hear you regarding how difficult it would be to commit to the choices you have on your list.

We can talk about your list, or my gap year, or I can finish writing Part 2 of my story … whichever way we go, it will have to be later (your evening time, my morning) since I’m getting tired 😴

I hope you have a good afternoon!

@buluberie

How have you been?

Oh hello! I would like to hear about your gap year and part 2 too

Recently, I've been learning sewing from a tailor. Then I realized it's not the thing I want to study in uni. Because fashion design, we have to be creative and create a lot. Maybe I'll go for English Language, or law.

I went out with some of my old friends this few weeks. We've talked a lot. And one of my friend is interested in English Language too. She's one year younger than me. Maybe we'll go visit some uni after her highschool exam. I'll be going sewing classes and work part-time during the time.

The cats are discharging soon, cuz the fees are pilling up fast🫠 It'll be very tired for caring the paralyzed mom and her two kittens.

I'm still not really ready for continuing my studies yet. My parents keep stressing me, cuz except my mom, my other family members are against me for rescuing the cat.

Hi!

Thanks for the update! I hear you about fashion and how creative you have to be. I mean, you can’t just be a creative person—you have to create! Yes?

I once thought I wanted to be a writer, and then I realized that the writers I know (and have read about) have their heads filled with ideas. Characters live with them all the time. That is not how my mind worked. I don't know if it was that way with fashion design for you?

I’m glad you saw some old friends. And maybe you will visit some uni together. That should be exciting.

You have a kind heart to take on the care of the mom and her kittens. I hope they end up in a good home or shelter.

My gap year …

It wasn't planned. I didn't even know I wanted it until October, after the start of my 12th grade year.

I was at a doctor's appointment, getting a cast off of my leg. At that time, I competed heavily in gymnastics. I wasn’t great, but my coach thought I could get onto a good college team. We were sitting outside in the parking lot after the doctor’s appointment.

My coach noticed I was very quiet, and he asked me what was wrong.

It took a long time for me to admit to him that I didn’t want to do gymnastics after this year. I thought he would be mad at me, but he wasn't. He just asked me what I was going to do at university if I wasn't going to do gymnastics? I didn’t have an answer tor him.

“If you don't have a purpose to go to university, then why are you going?”

“I’m supposed to go and study,” I replied.

“What do you want to study?"

“I don’t know.”

And then he looked into my eyes and asked me what I really wanted to do next year …

I grew up in a traditional (middle-class) Chinese family. My family didn’t expect me to be a doctor, engineer, or businessman, they just wanted me to attend any university. What I secretly wanted was my freedom.

This is what I told my coach.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I can’t write any more tonight. So maybe tomorrow or the next day.

I hope you have a good afternoon … talk soon!

Hello!

It also needs a lot of patience😭 And I don't think I'll like rushing to make outfits for assignments. I like things slowly.

Yes, I actually dreamed to be a writer too! But I kept thinking, they are so many kinds of novels all around the world now. How do I be, Creative? It's just the same with fashion I guess.

After reading your story. Wait, so your Chinese? (I am) It's just so stress when all my siblings get good grades, I'm just average. Everyone took science stream except me. When my elder sister was in secondary, she already figured out what she wants to be in the future—a doctor. It's hard to not compare with them.

I feel like my mind's gonna explode. Thinking of finding part-time, future studies, the cats and also, I just got my driving license(2 months already) but my parents doesn't let me drive far or alone. They keep saying that I can't do it, what if anything happens? It just makes me scared. I need to drive myself out in future, that's even scarier.

Time suddenly flies so fast when I finished my primary. I feel like I'm still very, young? I'm not ready to step in the paying bills world .

Now it's good night here!

Test 4

You will rejoice to hear that no disaster has accompanied the commencement of an enterprise which you have regarded with such evil forebodings. I arrived here yesterday, and my first task is to assure my dear sister of my welfare and increasing confidence in the success of my undertaking.

I am already far north of London, and as I walk in the streets of Petersburgh, I feel a cold northern breeze play upon my cheeks, which braces my nerves and fills me with delight. Do you understand this feeling?

These reflections have dispelled the agitation with which I began my letter, and I feel my heart glow with an enthusiasm which elevates me to heaven, for nothing contributes so much to tranquillise the mind as a steady purpose—a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye.
