What the hell is wrong here? O_o
NPD, especially the vulnerable type can be a crippling condition. It is extremely stigmatized and the last thing someone seeking help with their crippling personality disorder is people talking about how narcissists are the worst. Seriously, scrolling through this forum kinda made me sick with rage. Yeah, being with someone, suffering from NPD can be infuriating and hurtful, but so is suffering from the disorder itself.
Don't want to be disrespectful to anyone, it just kinda gave me the "is Jake Paul a psychopath" vibes. Imagine being depressed and reaching out, and all you find is people telling stories about how depressed people are the worst and how they hurt them by being depressed.
@MercivalGreenthumb You deserve support and help as much as anyone else. I hope you can find that here or elsewhere in your life.
@MercivalGreenthumb I agree with you. Supporting people with NPD is completely different from supporting people who have the secondary problem of being in some kind of relationship with someone with NPD. But at 7 Cups these two completely different things are hopelessly confused.
It's only fair to say that it isn't only NPD that 7 Cups gets confused about in this way. It affects 7 Cups' support for many other conditions too.
You ask what is wrong here. I think the basic problem is that 7 Cups has no clinical expert ensuring that everyone gets appropriate support. Considering the range of conditions and treatments that 7 Cups covers, this would have to be an experienced psychiatrist, because therapists don't deal with the full range of mental disorders. However, an experienced psychiatrist would cost serious money that 7 Cups doesn't have. So here we are. It's not ideal.

@MercivalGreenthumb I also agree with you. I have spoken up about some content adding onto stigma before regarding this, but it wasn't in the forums. I haven't looked through this forum section as a section for some time, and since you brought it up I took a look a I think there's a lot that can be hurtful here.
When discussing the disorder in an education way, I think we need to use terms like Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) and not start referring to people as Narcissists or worse, Narcs.
When it comes to others seeking support I'm more on the fence that way, but taking it out of the Narcissistic Personality Disorder section is something that could at the very least be done. Those types of posts where people are seeking support could go to Family or Relationship support areas.
Not everyone with NPD is going to be abusive. Many people do abusive things due to a disorder (I can think of numerous examples of that when someone is dealing iwth an addiction) - that doesn't make stigmatizing the disorder overall on 7 cups ok.
I'm going to tag @7cupscommunity overall on this plus @Tazzie @Mel and @CheeryMango for the subcommunity/forum aspect of this, because 7 cups can certainly reduce the stigma being portrayed when it comes to NPD.
Also will tag @competentParadise6344 regarding how this topic should be handled within this personality disorder support subcommunity.
Hes a good man but is difficult to live with. Thats what my momma always said about my dad and now I get it. That or, he loves you, he just doesnt know how to show it. And thanks to my momma, I would never harm my husbands reputation nor bad mouth him just bc he suffers from NPD. I mean, I have alot of stories to share. Its a dizzy mess but I believe the sadnbad is the personality disorder and not the core of who he is. The core of who he is- is the man i love. So, I completly understand what you are saying and value the fact you expressed this. Ek, Its so very easy to get caught up in our feelings when we are hurt or have been hurt in the past. Grr BUT we need to stay calm and remember its a trauma based illness. And if eventually we have to protect ourselves and leave..thats ok but we dont have to hate them during the process. We can learn to forgive from a distance.
@MercivalGreenthumb You are valid for becoming frustrated. It is brave of you to express this issue
@MercivalGreenthumb
Totally agree with you, it enrages me too. It is sad to see how prominant the stigma has grown around NPD. It does hinder one from seeking support, I'm sorry you experienced that even here.
Oh. I thought this was a support thing for people with it? That's really disappointing. I feel like whenever I look up stuff for people with NPD it's just a bunch of "Oh, this person broke my life. Reasons why they're such horrible people," "10 ways to tell if your partner is a narcissist" etc: never stuff for anyone actually handling it. Haha, here I was thinking this would be different.
@Archange1 Changes are coming soon!
