Thoughtful Thursday 03/04/2021

I've seen many comments from people saying they are new to 7 Cups and are looking for a place to feel heard. I've talked with long term members, who have expressed wanting a place to share their experiences with others with same or similar disorders.
So Thoughtful Thursdays area was created as a place to share what's on your mind. Maybe your thoughts are just what someone else needs to hear. So let's start a conversation! There will be a new post each Thursday, so look for another next week!
TODAY'S QUESTION: When someone first gets diagnosed with a disorder, I feel comfortable saying, we all can relate to the range of reactions, emotions, questions that can occur. So, my question is: What did you do next? What were some of the first steps that you took in order to adjust to life with your disorder?

Sher
@Sher217, I called my mother to tell her and she was unsupportive as usual.
Try to find a supportive community or a caring friend who understands you, it helps
I was diagnosed during a hospital admission for self harm, with borderline personality disorder, though I was not told. It wasn’t until I saw it on my medical diagnosis list that I looked at my hospital paperwork and saw Borderline Personality Disorder. The first , second and third things I did were to research, study, and learn all I could about Bpd, and I also began to search for a therapist who could treat it. That proved almost impossible!! But bpd fit me so perfectly. Never took my anger out on others except in my late teens I did. I was a different person and I didn’t like who I had become so I adjusted my personality again. From that adjustment on, I would only take my anger out on myself. Three years later , I’m still learning and searching.
