Aging Up Process [Archived]
Hey everyone & Happy Birthday to our newly aged up teens!
We have a lot of people aging up every month, this can be a hard transitioning process but with all the new things coming, we can hopefully help with that transitioning process a lot more! So here is a little info on the process and how to get help.
What is ageing up and who does it affect?
Aging up is the term we use for Teen accounts that get to 18 then switch from the Teen side to the Adult side. We call the process Aging up, So this only affects teen accounts.
What happens to the account?
Once a person turns 18, the account switches over at 12 am GMT, and the teen access is automatically removed. The person will see all the adult rooms (That are open and arent badge locked). As well as the browse listeners changing, so only adults and adult-teen listeners will show up on there. Also, the option of therapy becomes available once someone has aged up as it is only available for Adults.
Does that mean the connection with the Teen side is lost?
Definitely not!
For members:
There is the option to make forum posts or feed posts to connect with any teen friends to stay in contact. There are also new projects coming to help with maintaining this connection, helping with the transition and getting to know more aged up teens! (I will edit this and link them in once they have gone live)
For listeners:
Listeners can apply to become an Adult teen listener and regain their teen access! Read more about that here
Also, the evolution badge is given to aged up teens who join 7 Cups as a teen and continue using 7 Cups as an adult. So that always connects aged up teens together with the teen side.
Who can help with this process?
For members:
Any adult-teen listener for some guidance on the adult side.
Aging Up Hotel where members can reach out to a specific adult-teen listener for help and become acquainted with the adult side with them. (Currently on hold )
For listeners:
Any transition mentor for support with taking on the adult side as a listener
Transition mentor buddy project, listeners will be reached out to by a transition mentor on the month of their birthday to get support and guidance as they age up. (Currently on hold)
If you have any questions when it comes to ageing up, you can definitely post them below!

Great post :) I know a lot of people are scared to come over, and I can promise there's a bunch of great listeners to help you thru it :) Anyone can PM me once they age over if they feel lost or scared. I totally get being in an unfamilar place with a bunch of adults you're not sure you can relate to.
@ArwaS
Are the teens warned that this will happen so that they can tell their long term members and help to find them another teen listener?
@MistyMagic
Hey misty! We try to, whenever a transition mentor reaches out to them but were trying to have something in place, something like what kate have announced today. (Im on the app so cant link it but will do whenever Im on a laptop), so it can then give them a chance to refer their long term members.
@Yendi @MistyMagic Here's the link
Thank you @Rose ❤︎
@Yendi @Rose
Thanks, yes I saw the update, its great :)
idk why i got moved to the adult side
@LEAHOK
Are you turning 18 this month Leah? With member accounts, the account ages up at the beginning of the month of their birthday, so if you are turning 18 this month your account would age up on the 1st. If you aren't ageing up this month, can you please email community@7cups.com so that you can get your birthday on your account fixed!
@ArwaS
If I were to apply to become a forum teen star and I age up this year what will happen to that role. Would it disappear, as well as the access to the teen side?
Also, will our current chats disappear when we age up?
@SoftAlpaca10 hello! You'll automatically become a forum mentor. Also, you won't be able to access the teen badgelocked subcoms such as teen only zone and teen self esteem and body image unless you're an ATL, same goes for the group support rooms and teen listener rooms you have.
As for the 1on1 chats, as far as I know, teen members on your My Impact page will automatically be removed to ensure disconnection from the teen side.
@Erato
Thank you for this information! <3

Hi,
I lost my past messages and was told that it was because I have become an Adult-Listener or so? So I applied for the Adult-Teenager Listener given above and one of the required questions were based on an Interview like a video call.
I currently study and live abroad here in the UAE and any video calls are blocked. Is there any way for this interview to happen via phone call or message instead?
I am willing to discuss this further in private messages. :)
I'm confused, my listener is gone, is it because i aged up? Can i get back in contact withg them, or do i have to move on?
how can i get an access to adult members....i mean how can i get requests from adult listeners?
Okay so i was not amused to lose all of my friends so suddenly. Also, I don't like the adult site. I don't know anyone and it makes me uncomfortable that there are all kinds of age groups. This is not meant to be insulting but...
... I feel as a listener i cannot support people who are way older than me and are dealing with different problems in life.
... As a member i want advice from people who are roughly my age group because they are dealing with similar struggles in roughly the same time period.
In the adult site, there are people who could be my parents or grandparents. I feel i cannot support them and if i wanted support from people of that age I would give my mum or grandma a call.
Here's my solution:
- phase out the aging up aka give the teen from their 18 th to 19 th birthday to transition by themselves if they feel they are ready
- easy colour coding system for the adult side. You did it with the animal icons, do the same for rough age groups. At least seperate into young adult, adult, oldie or whatever. Then i can see if I am chatting with an old person or a person my age.
Honestly, i am trying to get into uni rn and people who got into uni in like 1980 might just not be able to help me with that as efficiently as someone who enrolled in 2018.
Over and out.
