I learned that if I don't respond instantaneously, the thread might get lost and I didn't want that to happen, which demonstrates that your thoughts are extremely valuable to me!

@Healingbeams

Hi Healing! 😊❤️ Thank you for your amazing forum post as well as for tagging me! 😊 I too, really liked the examples that you gave of how 7 cups has benefited others in real life. Hmmm.....so let's see, for me specifically.....here are some things I can think of....

Not long after joining 7 cups I noticed that I had truly embraced and internalized part of our training as listeners. In real life, I started asking more open ended questions. I also started reflecting back to the person that I was speaking with what they had said to me, but with using my own words so they the knew they had been heard and understood. Also, this is helpful if one didn't quite "get it", didn't quite understand the full meaning and so it gives the other person a chance to maybe explain it a little differently.

I really loved noticing how I was doing this in real life and it reminded me a bit of the concept of learning multiple languages. That one realizes, that they truly know the language and quite well when they dream in that language (true immersion). I think that kind of translates. Ba-dum-cha! (Pardon the pun) 😊

I learned how very empathic I am. Empathy for others is my strong suit and 7 cups helped me to notice that as one of my strengths. One of our 7 cups core values is *know your strengths and work on your weaknesses*. Validating the feelings and emotions of others is something that has always come naturally for me. When moving across the platform, I came across a forum post that provided an "empathy test". Wow! That certainly did speak volumes. 😳 It was interesting in that I missed a perfect score by only one question. I was never so happy as that moment to have missed a question. Yikes! 😳

It caused me pause and caused me concern and made me think about how I operate in this world. It made me think and deeply about how very empathetic I am towards others and maybe to the degree that I don't "hold space" for myself enough. It gave me the opportunity to re-evaluate my behaviors towards others and that maybe telling others "no" was finally in order. To still help them but if they don't listen, to let them go ahead and experience what I call "natural consequences" of their behaviors.

It helped me to intentionally "shut off" a natural inclination of mine, from time to time, if I felt it was unhealthy in not allowing others to learn in that way as well as to set boundaries. I have gotten much better at boundary setting and in so doing, it went hand in hand with me having more empathy for myself. Being more kind to "me". Engaging more in self care and not putting myself last all of the time.

7 cups also taught me that we cannot fill up the cup of another if our personal "well" has run dry.

This platform also taught me about mindfulness. 😊❤️ I am someone that is quite high on the agreeableness scale as well as conscientiousness. I am one of those "plan your work and work your plan types". That's never going to change, clearly this is how I am at the core of my being. It's just how I am built. And I'm pretty darn happy about that! 😊😊😊 Yippie! However, I love engaging in mindfulness when doing my work now. I love getting things done while also "letting myself off the hook" at the same time. No need to rush. No worries, no worries at all. I now reserve the right to move slowly, go at my own pace, be in the moment of each and everything that I do. I enjoy everything even more.

No rush, no fuss, no muss. I will not be pressured, rushed along by either myself or others. I guess this is also a boundary thing. One day I asked myself...."self, who is this big scary boss that you are working for"? I realized that the big scary boss was me! Bad Gizzie, bad! ha ha 😊❤️

These are just some of the things. Rest assured, there are lots of other things that come to mind and they are all good and quite beneficial to me as a human being. ❤️

Healing, once again, many thanks for your fantastic forum post! I really enjoyed being asked and I enjoyed spending time here with you, engaging in stream of consciousness. I love 7 cups and I love being a part of the team. It feels good to be a part of something, much bigger than yourself, something that you believe in. ❤️ Answering your question helped me to have an additional gratitude moment for the platform, once again today. 😊❤️

*high fives* 😊 and big *hugs* ❤️

Reading Gizzie's response made me realize some ways we are opposites and so many ways that I have learned skills and attributes from 7 cups interactions.

One way we are different is that I am definitely a "tinkerer," or "bricoleur" rather than a "planner." Seymour Papert wrote about this, and it was one of the bases for my dissertation and also a book I'm writing now about educational curriculum. The idea is that some people learn better by playing around with things, somewhat like a small child in a sandbox. They experiment, try things, and learn by doing. That's me in a nutshell. Other people, and this is valued by society as a whole, are planners. There's nothing wrong with planners! In fact, that's why they are so valued by society! But it's a different sort of thinking.

Anyway, something 7 cups helped me to realize is that I can embrace my learning stye and it's ok, because we are all diverse individuals. There's room for all sorts of learning styles! There's loads of room! That's all for now! I learned other things too, but till later!

Hi Violet! 😊❤️ oh my gosh.........I love your contribution to this thread! Brilliant, just brilliant my friend!

I feel as if differences are wonderful! ❤️ How boring would the world be, if for any one of us, the world were filled with carbon copies of ourselves? 😳 We are all special and unique! We all have value!

Sometimes in life opposites attract, the whole yin and yang to people and life.

Sometimes even, we might find that we are all more alike as humans than we are different if we were to simply give each other a chance, be open minded, to be receptive to one another. Example.....I for one loveeeeeeeee what you said about "learning by doing". Ahhhhhhhhh, experiential learning, it's how I learn best! I learn best this way personally, I enjoy the practice effect. 😊❤️

Learning can be placed on a bell curve. We all need at least enough "stress" on the left hand side of the bell curve (many times referred to as U-stress) for optimal performance, as we have to at least have a pulse. Too much stress, this can be seen all the way to the right of the bell curve. This is not conducive to learning as well. Too little or too much. Either is not optimal. Ahhhhhhh, right in the middle, this is where we "hit our sweet spot" all flow and no frazzle. For me, helping me to sit right in the middle of that bell curve is precisely what you mentioned.......learning by doing, experiential learning. You speak my language. You are part of my "tribe". ❤️

*high fives* 😊

I commend you for knowing yourself. Yes, Indeed, "Know thy self". Its great to know your strengths and play to them as well as to understand your weaknesses and work on them.

All of us being different, special and unique as listeners, works perfectly for this platform as well. I see it this way as I see members as my teammates also. They too are all special and unique in all of their wonderful ways. (We are all humans, that makes us all on the same team here)😊❤️. There is a concept of finding the right "fit" for a listener and member. If a listener and member are the right "fit" well, that is the beautiful union and where the magic happens! Wooooooo hoooooooo! 😊❤️

There may be times when a member must try a few times to find their right "fit". Because we are all special and unique. One of my, what I call Gizzie-isms around here is referring to that as finding your "Goldilocks" listener. Just like the story of Goldilocks and the three little bears, it can be like....this porridge is too hot, this porridge is too cold, and then finally.........ahhhhhhhhh, this porridge is just right! 😊❤️

We all belong here, we all have value! Embrace the differences my friend! I applaud you! 😊❤️

*high fives* 😊 and big *hugs* ❤️

@Healingbeams

I meant to add my 2 cents when this thread was first published, so, sorry for the delay.

I've noticed that our group management, conflict resolution and de-escalation skills improve through group support rooms.

Ensuring that the rooms, as well as the conversations in there, remain friendly, clique-free, safe, and welcoming to anyone entering is something we can apply to real life in friend chats, board rooms, and group project team meetings.

Plus, we do have Group Support Program at 7Cups Academy for those wanting some structure to their learning.

@Healingbeams , a big yes to this !!! I haven't done a self introspection of how being at cups has influenced me. But now that I think about it, most of the thoughts that rush in resonates with everything you mentioned above. Two more additions to ( if you don't mind) being here , both as a listener as well as a member, makes one's day very pleasant , even when they don't engage in a chat. Also cups is safe place for many of us , to vent , to let the guards down, receive support, give support , list goes on

@healingbeams, this is very good! One way to think of 7 Cups is as a network of people that lift each other up or fill up one another's cups. One hypothesis here would be that if you get your cup filled up on 7 Cups then you have more resources and can then help fill up other people in the offline world - like friends and family members.
