Aisha: Comphi your kind and supportive presence is well appreciated in the community. Would you like to share with us how your 7cups journey started and how it evolved?


Comphi: Thank you Aishaa for giving me this opportunity. This was completely unexpected, but I am glad I made it here. I cannot thank you enough for those kind words, I try my best to remain the same in my on and off life. My journey began with 7cups because I was looking for a way to interact with new people. I am an introvert, and I also stay away from most of the social media platforms, because in my personal opinion, I always assumed that I wasn’t justifying my time if I got involved in that. So my journey started when I was looking for ways where people actually came to me with their issues, and I became an ear for them. I knew there were platforms that provided such support. That's where I found this beautiful community. I started as a listener, initially receiving coaching mails, but that did not take me down. I did better at chats and when I stopped receiving those mails, I knew I was doing better. I applied to become a verified listener and then got into more depth of the platform and learnt about various opportunities this platform provided. Not to say more, I haven’t looked back since and there is a lot more I want to do for this platform, which has unknowingly changed my life for the better.

Aisha: Which of your many roles is your favourite and why?


Comphi: Though I love each one of them because they have their own importance, but two of them can be considered my absolute favourites. One of them is being Listener Chatroom Mentor and Moderator. I have learnt a lot from Listener Chatrooms and that too in a short amount of time. I love talking to new listeners and encouraging them to perform better. The role not only provides me the liberty to get to know the new talents, but also to keep the atmosphere safe and pleasing for everyone. It's a great feeling when new listeners come to my PMs to tell me how they handled a new chat just because I assisted them during their previous chat as a chat supporter. Second role is being a member of team AE. For me safety is the top most priority here, be it for members or listeners. I feel as a mentor on this platform it's my duty to filter the (non-cooperatives) and I am ready to put every effort into that.

Aisha: How does life at 7 cups impact your real life?


Comphi: It has impacted big time. In real life I have gotten to speak English better, because its not my mother tongue. Secondly I have become more positive in everyday life, I no more consider myself unlucky if I dont have something, but instead I have started to feel content with whatever I have. I have stopped thinking negatively about anyone or myself in general. Life was never meant to be easy, no matter what happens we have to put in efforts, and it's a continuous process. My first and foremost aim is to always remain humble, I know I can’t be the best, nobody is. So, When I wake up, I know in my head, I have to be good to everyone, nobody in life deserves to be treated badly.

Aisha: What does a typical day on 7 cups look like for you?


Comphi: To be honest, I give close to two housr each day to 7cups and that happens on and off. I have various roles on this platform and I dont perform each because I have a quota to fill, but because I enjoy each one of them. I am working full time, so during the day, I am hopping from work to 7cups whenever I have time. It helps to release my stress a little. And half an hour daily before going to bed. Whatever time I give here, fills me with immense joy.

Aisha: You have such a compassionate approach to modding and mentoring, what motivates your approach?


Comphi: The most important thing to remember while performing any role on this platform is to never forget that we are all volunteers. We are all equals, the only difference we have comes from experience. Otherwise we are unaware, who is old or young, sometimes we are even unaware of the gender, so there is totally no discrimination. I feel this is the beauty of this platform and that must be respected. Before going ahead in any role, I always remind myself that any person, be it a member, a normal listener, or any other mentor, is equally important. We together form this community, no single person can take it forward, its an inclusive effort. And as I said earlier, My first and foremost motto is to respect everyone. Until and unless I treat others with respect, they will not respect me back. So everyone who is putting their precious time into this platform is equally important and well deserving of every respect we as a person and as mentors can give them. Being a mentor means setting an example for others so that others know it is a good place to be in and they themselves can aim for higher roles, only then will we be able to provide quality support here. We are not competing against anyone here and my thought process has never been that. I dont intend to answer many many questions and catch the limelight, but my main intentions are to back everyone on this platform and let them know whatever happens I am there with them and only a message away. What motivates me is just the thought that so many volunteers are ready to give their time to this community, which I consider the most precious thing of all, because you can never get it back, and they do it for only one thing or can I say those few words :- “you are really helpful”. A member can say it after a nice session with a listener, a listener can say it to another listener after a chat support or peer support session, or a mentor could say it to the ambassador if they face a difficulty in their role.

Aisha: What's one change/development that you want to most strongly see in cups working through your contributions?


Comphi: Sure, I would love to answer that. Like many other volunteers here, I too have set myself some goals. Some listeners want to get verified and listen to more members, and some are like me who want to get into higher roles to provide maximum support to the listeners community, so that in return they can help the members and ultimately the whole community benefits from that. What I talk about here today is only my personal opinion and I believe this platform has given us enough rights to speak our heart out. I do have aims to get further into leadership roles as a Listener Chatroom Mentor. I feel this area of platform has vast potential to grow. We see familiar faces in Listener Chatrooms, yes we have newbies coming in, but that's potentially a very small number. Even the experienced ones whom we can find in the browse listeners menu are yet to fully explore the potential of the Listener Chatrooms. They are unaware that just by joining Listener Chatrooms, they can take their listening journey to a whole new level. I want to reach out to them and encourage them to join the Listener Chatrooms. They will not only get their queries resolved but get familiar with other listeners as well and what kind of support is available for them in the form of peer and chat support. My aim today and tomorrow will be to make chatrooms and the platform an inclusive place where everyone feels at home, where their queries are answered as soon as possible, a place where their privacy is maintained and above all, to create an atmosphere where they and their opinions are always heard and respected by everyone.
