@Emily619 no. @Laura needs to bring them
@Laura
Rumination and Recall again and again as we are passed from pillar to post with councellors and therapists who all seem to do the same thing, starting at the beginning which doesnt really help people at all except having to recall trauma's and bad things over and over again. I just wish the entire system would stop doing this and pass information between all councellings and support services like the hospitals do by logging whats been done, covered and given but especially what core issues a person has and their problems to reduce the time having to re-explain things all the time.
@An1mal the day that when my conversations with a listener will be shared to an other. i will quit 7cups.
@TortueDesBois I think they didn't mean it that way. Of course every information is confidential.
I think what they meant was, in case you're switching to another new therapist after your previous therapist left for some reason. It might feel a bit tedious to some members if they have to repeat again their whole life story to someone and to have to repeat again what the previous therapist did or do. To be honest if this were to work like a real therapy session with a licensed therapist this is in fact, an issue that needs to be solved.
@TortueDesBois
I mentioned councellors and therapists in the post, not listeners or 7 cups
@An1mal I hear you. You seem to make a heart felt request. I hope that we move in that direction. But in my experience every therapist starts out fresh. Maybe by telling the story we release some of the pain or a new therapist might see something the other did not.
A point well made. Thanks.
@soulsings The thing is, in real life when we have an appointment with a therapist and we get transferred to another therapist, the new therapist will be inform of our condition. I don't see why things work differently with 7 Cups licensed therapists? If they are in fact licensed therapists they should be officially trained in confidentiality and this won't an issue at all. 7 Cups therapy sessions albeit online, is still run by licensed therapists and we're paying money for them, I don't see why it should be exempted.
It seems like to me, "confidentiality" is being used as an excuse for the lack of proper referrals done on 7 Cups.
The monthly subscriptions are quite expensive and maybe to someone who is rich with lots of money they won't feel any difference with repeating their stories to a new therapist but to someone who is limited in finance we would like to continue and get to the point, rather than spending my money on repeating my story everytime there is someone new I am connected to.
@justanothersoult
Absolutely its a frustration by many obtaining therapy and councelling, and while some feel disclosure and passing on reletive information about a client might prove difficult in their own situation, some also follow this because it gains futher sessions to gain extra revenue. Passing on information from one therapist to another is actually quite contructive and a professional thing to do if they value your recovery and healing process because it shows responsibility in their role. Hospitals do this by keeping records of patients which can be accessed by the medical staff so why not therapists and councellors. At the very least write an introduction letter outlining the issues dealt with and ongoing issues needed to be resolved. This will stop people from having to undergo recall from the start of receiving new therapy treatment. It makes common sense to me and its why therapy in general is so mentally difficult for people to go through. Give us an easier time when receiving therapy and push for this to be achieved in the mental health service.
@justanothersoult I hear your frustration and I really do not know why that happens. Lara I think is head of therapy. They might shed some light on the situation.
I am not suree what the answer to your question is. If you want a work around, you might consider copying the major background info and storing on google docs or My Notes under your avatar. That way if you do change counselors you have that background info handy all typed out.
@An1mal
It might be an idea to use the link for topics.
@An1mal
I agree completely. This is one of the reasons I quit going to therapy and started my own healing path (please don't think I'm recommending that to others--I just state it to sympathize). It just got too painful (and expensive) to rehash the same things over-and-over. It would seem as if you should be able to sign a release and one therapist could transfer information to the other.
@An1mal
If it helps at all to limit re-verbalizing it each time the therapist(s) may be willing to read what you've written down about each thing that requires worked on by more than one session. This can help them see a fuller picture of your situation and you can say in it what you've already resolved to your satisfaction so they don't try to waste time elaborating on something that no longer needs worked on. That way too it may ease nerves about forgetting something during an appointment. Seeing the words you've written yourself may provide some benefit to you realizing something about your reactions or responses to feelings that you hadn't before too.
I think some countries may have laws allowing patients of mental health professionals to obtain any applicable records but I'm not sure how much of that being in depth stories would be kept on file and not left to the therapist's memory.
