Breakup

I broke up with my ex boyfriend of a year and a half in December. We were in a long distance relationship and he’s been struggling with depression and some health issues. Every time we saw each other all we did was sit on the couch with his parents and watched tv or slept (might I add, when we did go out together, it was usually with his parents) He said he has no motivation to do anything or go anywhere. But then at night, he would want to be intimate with me and I would say no (he didn’t like that). He said I left him when he needed/wanted me the most and I got texts from his mom guilt tripping me to stay with him. Now I’m pretty sure his whole family hates me, some even unfriended me on Facebook. Was I a bad person for breaking up with him when he was going through a rough time but our relationship wasn’t going anywhere? I just didn’t know how to help him, especially if I’m here and he’s there. I feel like a terrible person and I’m having such a hard time getting over this and moving on.

From what it sounds like, you couldn’t grow in the relationship and choosing your growth is what’s important. As much blame as they can place on you, it is also up to his family and him to support himself. It is not your fault.

@peacesigngrl3

you made a decision. And you are responsible for yourself. And that's okay. Your ex boyfriend is responsible for himself and his parents too. It is up to them to respect and accept your decision. Even if they blame you, there is nothing wrong with you. I can understand that you feel like a terrible person. But it does not mean it is true. On the contrary feeling that way means that you are caring person.
