Casual relationship ended but I can't stop crying over him?

My best friend and I began a physical relationship a few months back and I think along the way I fell for him romantically too, although I kept denying it. I was afraid of saying how I felt in case it ruined what we had - we used to hang out, go out, stay in bed all day and stay at each others places and it was the closest and most trusting I've ever been with another person.

This weekend he asked if we could go back to being friends and I agreed, acting as if I felt the same way. We then hung out and slept together again but he said it will never happen again and I found out he has a date with a new girl tomorrow.

I don't think I can deny it any longer that I really really liked him and am really hurt by the fact we are now over. I can't stop crying and it's interfering with my daily life, but I have no friends I am close to that I can talk about it with. I'm worried I will never be as compatible and close with someone and I was with him, and I have no idea how to deal with these emotions I now feel.

As he is my best friend, I will still be seeing him alone fairly frequently and I am worried that I will always be disappointed that our interactions aren't the same, and it will continue to hurt me.

Does anyone have any advice with how to deal with this sadness and how I can get over him as quickly as he seems to have moved on from me?

@Catescna As I'm reading this, it sounds to me like the physical aspect of the relationship is going away for right now. But he's your best friend, and it sounds like you two talk on a pretty regular basis and have probably had some deep discussions. Even if he doesn't seem to feel romantically toward you, is it true that you can still be close to him and talk to him often? It's nice that you can still be alone with him, too. Definitely not trying to minimize what you feel, but maybe there is another, less painful way to look at this since he is not leaving your life altogether. What do you think? Physical relationships are great, but I've come to know through my experiences that they aren't everything... to me, what's most important is that emotional intimacy and closeness. It sounds like you have both of those with him. The fact that he trusts you enough to engage even in "casual" relations and still talk to you afterward shows a lot. I hope you feel better, and feel free to message me if you'd like someone to talk to.
