Confused. What does he mean?

My bf/ex and I were in a relationship for 5.5 years. Last month, he told me to reconsider our relationship because he felt that I deserve someone better. He told me he has considered all factors before coming into this conclusion. I reflected and realised that I have always been mean to him. I made him feel bad about himself. He felt that he will pull me down as i am more "successful" than him on papers. So I tried to be a better gf, but he said that he doesn't want me to change who I am. I tried my best to convince and reassure him that i will be happy with him. i went "crazy", cried and begged him to give us another chance but he said "no". He said he wants me to be happy.

It has been 10 days since I last met him. I still text him every few days to remind him that I am waiting for him and i have not given up on us.

He has not deleted our couple app as he read my messages. I know he has also not told anyone about the break up.

We are going on a trip in 3 months with a mutual friend. Few days ago, he told me he doesn't mind me going since I have already paid for it when i asked. He then paid my share of cost in advance yesterday to the friend who booked an accom.

However, he doesn't reply to my other texts and refuse to meet me. I am really confused what his actions above mean. What should I do?

@JGJG You might want to ask him what he means since we aren't there. It's a little weird but he could also enjoy the attention of you messaging him for whatever reason.

I knew someone who could pull stuff like this (break it off but not actually cut ties) and it only caused my friend a lot of pain.

What you do is up to you but it may be best to cut your losses and sever all ties.

@ReadBooksDrinkTea thank you for the advice. Really appreciate it.

I really think that it was my fault so it is really difficult for me to cut off ties with him. But i would try to give him space for now..

Hey there, hopefully you are doing well. There's a few things I would like to point out;

My bf/ex and I were in a relationship for 5.5 years. Last month, he told me to reconsider our relationship because he felt that I deserve someone better. (This can definetly come as a shock since it comes out of no where, however this is his way of checking out of the relationship by saying those things) He told me he has considered all factors before coming into this conclusion. I reflected and realised that I have always been mean to him. I made him feel bad about himself. (Are you sure it was you? or was it him?) He felt that he will pull me down as i am more "successful" than him on papers. (In here he feels inferior and insecure because he feels less sucessful than you (it's not your fault), this often happens when someone earns more than the other or they have a better job position than the other. He is forgetting that you are both equals, even if one is more successful than the other) So I tried to be a better gf, but he said that he doesn't want me to change who I am. (I can see why this would make you try hard since you didn't want to lose him, but its important to not change who you are as a person because this has to do more with him than you) I tried my best to convince and reassure him that i will be happy with him. i went "crazy", cried and begged him to give us another chance but he said "no". (It's understandable you did all of this, its tough knowing the other person wants to end the relationship after all the things you two have gone through together)He said he wants me to be happy.

It has been 10 days since I last met him. I still text him every few days to remind him that I am waiting for him and i have not given up on us. (I can see you are feeling scared and anxious after the way things ended, and not being able to have the relationship with him. I feel like the whole texting every few days is your way to calm down the anxiety you feel, so it's not a genuine reach out. Reaching out first after he ended things is a bad idea because it will push him away even further, and then it will affirm to him that he made the right decision)

(It's understandable why you would want to meet up him, you feel this logging and missing him, but you are being more focused on how you feel than how he feels. He has set a boundary by not replying to texts, and you are sending more texts without thinking this would make him feel smothered) I am really confused what his actions above mean. What should I do?

@freshLight64 thank you for the reply. It is really helpful. I realised that i should stop texting him for now and let him have some time to himself to think about it..

And yes.. it was me who made him feel bad about himself. I have said very mean things to him and i regret them all. I hope he can give me a chance to treat him well and right.
