Feeling devastated by past relationship.

I was in a relationship with a woman for 5 years up until 4 months ago. We were living together for the entire 5 years of our relationship, and she had 2 children from a previous marriage that I helped take care of. For about 3 months after we broke up I tried to work things out with her, and we were still living together.

We went on dates, I took her out to dinner and bought flowers, fixed things around the house. She still wanted to remain broken up and then a month ago, forced me to leave the house. I had to move back to my home state because I had no family where we lived and nowhere to go.

After I had moved back, found out she was with another guy already. Two weeks after, she was "in a relationship" with him. And now after only 1 month of me not living there she is flaunting their relationship and posting pictures together.

I know I shouldn't care and that all the advice is to "just move on, live my own life". Well for myself...it's hard to do that. I love her and still care about her. This has been the worst month of my entire life and being cut off from someone I spent 5 years of my life with just hurts more than any pain. More than dislocating my knee, tooth pain, and gall bladder attacks.

Struggling to get through this. The only bright side is that I have managed to get a full time job and will be seeing a therapist this week. But even trying to heal and work on myself, I can't change the way I'm feeling inside.

Thank you if you managed to read all this. Just needed to put it into words.

@Joubear

Good luck with the new job!

I'm glad you are starting therapy.

That will be a great help!

You cannot just switch off your feelings!

It takes time!

I get that!

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. Trying to be hopeful but it's a difficult road alone.

@Joubear

We cannot just turn off feelings...

We cannot sometimes understand how someone we felt we knew loved etc moves on.  It is more then letting go of her it is letting go of the dream or picture you had for you future.  you saw a life with her and kids... that has changed.

It takes time to focus on a new future .. a new beginning ...   a new Job and living elsewhere and therapy may help you...

I know that I can't turn off my feelings, it's just frustrating to hear it from family and advice from people online. Most people's solution is to do that and it doesn't work for me.

       Each person has different things work for them ... IMO that is why some situations there are not many options offered.

Some throw themselves into things like work / hobby  / some people have hook ups and casual flings many  quit looking or following at any sort of social media  post about the other person.   hope you find something for yourself.
