Getting obsessed
Hello everyone,
I think I start to need some good help from you. I can't stop thinking about my ex. Our situation was so confusing at the end that I don't get to stop thinking about it! I try to get distracted, do other things but I don't get to do it, everything reminds me of him :( I don't even get to talk with my friends because they see it is hopless and I also think they're getting tired of hearing about it. I really miss this guy, his company, his friendship... but the situation is so weird I don't know what to do :(
I met him online and then met in person 4 months ago. The connection was insant, we really liked each other. I espacially felt how much he was getting attached to me, faster than I would. Then little by little I started to feel the same way. I was so much into him! But the last time he came to see me, about a month ago, we had a strong argument about him talking with his ex behind my back. He swore he has nothing with her but it took me some time to understand that. He was very sad I couldn't get to trust him again, and that I was constantly insecure. Little by little he pulled away, until it ended. He said he still wants to talk to me but I was so sad I asked him to not keep contact for a while. Now I regret it. I sent him an email saying I would be happy to reconnect with him, and he answered asking how I was. Then I replied saying I would only like to keep things clear before starting a friendship (in other words, I don't want to get expectations if there aren't any). Of course, he didn't answer this time...
Can somebody please give me a hint on how to act now? :(

Hey there, hopefully you are doing well, theres a few things I would like to point out;
I think I start to need some good help from you. (Breakups are usually rough depending on the way you grew up since your childhood, but from reading this few sentences it tells me you are going through a lot of anxiety, hurt, pain. All of this is because you are going through separation anxiety, its similar to losing someone close to you, so it hurts deeply, and when people are going through this much hurt and anxiety then they are likely to find comfort in friends and family. You are feeling his absence, and missing him so this usually takes a bit of time to feel better). I really miss this guy, his company, his friendship... but the situation is so weird I don't know what to do :(
I met him online and then met in person 4 months ago. The connection was insant, we really liked each other. I espacially felt how much he was getting attached to me, faster than I would. (The way he may have gotten attached faster, probably means that he had unmet needs, but I'm glad you two were able to met and experience something so beautiful). Then little by little I started to feel the same way. I was so much into him! But the last time he came to see me, about a month ago, we had a strong argument about him talking with his ex behind my back. (In here you felt fear of abandonment, fear you could lose him to her, anxiety and perceiving a threat so it made you lose emotional self control, which then it turned into an argument. These kind of feelings and anxiety can be quite overwhelming so it becomes hard to calm them down in the instant it happens). He swore he has nothing with her but it took me some time to understand that. (A lot of people who get amxiety or fear of abandonment become very distracted on reducing those symptoms to the point where they are not actually hearing what the other person is saying, even with evidence). He was very sad I couldn't get to trust him again, and that I was constantly insecure. (In here well, the person is going to feel like no matter what they do or say would not be enough, however in here he felt rejected because of things he goes through so it made him feel sad) Little by little he pulled away, until it ended. He said he still wants to talk to me but I was so sad I asked him to not keep contact for a while. (I could tell you were going through a lot of pain and hurt here so it made you say that). Now I regret it. I sent him an email saying I would be happy to reconnect with him, and he answered asking how I was. (I do know you miss him, wanted to hear from him, but did you also send him a message to reduce the pain and hurt?) Then I replied saying I would only like to keep things clear before starting a friendship (in other words, I don't want to get expectations if there aren't any). Of course, he didn't answer this time...(You shouldn't reach out to him anymore, no calling or texting until he replies to you. You did your part by reaching out, so its his turn to reply)
@freshLight64 Thanks a lot for sharing this point of view!! It was really helpful!! I felt a lot of things made sense.
I know I should wait for him to make a move now (something I start to doubt will ever happen by now... ). It drives me crazy because he said that "losing contact would make him feel sad", and now that I say that I'm ready to start again as friends, he does this. I want to believe he got scared that I ask to clarify the situation before, either because he doesn't want to hurt me saying "yes, we're only friends", or because he doesn't wan't to say he is eventually open for something else. I undersand his position is not the best, but for me it is for the good of both of us to know that before. Anyway, he prefers distance...
@Rousseau1780
Well the thing is that you might be ready to be friends with him, but he might not be ready to be friends with you. I do know that if he has romantic feelings for you then he shouldn't go along with the friendship because it'll feel like torture to him and it could make it harder for him to heal, but you also got to think about what he wants as well. His distance could probably mean he is not ready for anything yet, or it could mean he is busy.
@freshLight64 I understand. Anyway, the day we broke up it was him who said he accepted to go no-contact for a while if I wanted to, but that it would make him feel sad. That's why I'm so confused with his attitude now. He clearly didn't like me asking him to clarify on what page we are :( (even though I asked that as sweet and mature as I could do it)
Ok, I've just seen he's been liking his ex's pictures of FB. Now I know this is over :(
@Rousseau1780
One important thing, you shouldn't message or pursue someone who has breakup with you, he should be the one to reach out first to you to fix things, not the other way around. You might need to unfollow his Facebook posts, I could tell seeing him put a like on her picture caused you to feel anxiety and as if he is not interested in talking with you anymore, but this is how anxiety will make you think. I know it's hurtful seeing this, wishing you could talk with him, but it's important to not do anything from here on out.
@freshLight64 thank you for the message :)
I contacted him first because I made a little mistake when we broke up. I was very sad and I asked him to please not contact me in order to rebuild myself. He said "I understand and I will respect that, even if that will make me sad". Therefore, I kind of blocked all kind of possible contact in the future. With my e-mail I tried to show him now I'm ok to reconnect. But either he didn't get the message, or he just don't feel to contact me yet...
I don't have him on fb now, I saw he liked the pics because I stalked him (see why I say I'm obsessed...). But today I erased his phone number and email from my phone. " Little big" step.
