How Do I Handle My Emotions After a Breakup?

My, now ex-boyfriend, and I had kind of been arguing for a little while now and a few days before Christmas and my birthday he broke up with me over text message. Part of the reasoning was because I made him feel bad when I expressed my emotions. He felt I was taking my emotions out on him, but I would just be upset about something he had said or done and wanted to express that. Maybe I wasn’t handling it the best, and I really didn’t mean to make him feel bad about any of his decisions I just couldn’t help but express when I was upset with him. I miss him so much and would do anything to have him back. I tried to apologize and explain that I’ve been trying to do better, but it’s hard. How do I handle my emotions? How do I express them in a way that’s not toxic and won’t push people away from me?

@djhmbtr

Breakups can surely be hard and it sounds like this was a tough one. I understand open communication is great and you were trying to open up but he took it personally. I know you want him back, and handling emotions is very difficult. It might be a good idea to look back on previous situations and see what, if anything, you did wrong. It might also help to try not to feel guilty, and keep in mind how to express more healthily. And if you were expressing your emotions normally, in a safe space and he's taking it personally then that could be a big red flag.

Here is a resource with information about expressing emotions healthily<3

I hope this mess gets sorted for you, and we're all here rooting for you.

Hi

I understand how you feeling. I can relate to you. But the best advise I can give you is give him space. Don’t text him even though you miss him. You are not the reason he broke up with you. His choice. Respect yourself not to beg him or text him.

if he was feeling the same way you are feeling right now he won’t let you go, is gonna be painful my dear but do this to free yourself.

put his pictures you have in a box and hide them somewhere. You don’t have to see their social media, if it’s necessary block them. Delete his number as well. Don’t chase him. He broke up with you. Respect yourself. If he truly love you and need you. He will find his way to you.

@bobsumareh thank you so much for the advise. It is definitely challenging not to contact him, and I can admit that, in a moment of weakness, I had reached out already. But I know that you’re right. The best way to do it is to give him space, it’s just hard to not go to the person that you’ve been telling everything to for a while now.

From my experience I will tell you to give him space. That’s the best chance you have in getting him back. Remember he asked for the break up. And I can understand you texting him, needing explanation, trying to fix things. You have tried. Now let him go. Grief, take care of your self, eat and try to sleep, gonna be hard but try. Ignoring him is your best chance in getting him back
