How to get over a narcissist that wrote the book on manipulating..
Well, how can I make this short and sweet. Met and fell instantly in 2012. We were together officially for 4 years. In a “situationship” as the young kids like to call it for 6 years. Had an incident recently that finally made me realize that there is no possibility of making things work or being together anymore. But fuck, I feel so fucking sad. She is the most selfish and self absorbed person I have ever met and has put me through hell for these past ten years, lied to me and gotten my hopes up every step of the way, yet I can’t seem to shake her. I know that this is extremely toxic and no good but I can’t seem to stop missing her and loving some part of her. A part that I most likely made up in my head. The rational side of me is telling me that it’s obvious that that person doesn’t exist and this isn’t love. She was my first everything. The only love I’ve ever had. I can’t seem to see a future without her in it..
@whizkid03 maybe try threapist or do some research on narcissism may be best to try research first then go to therapy if its really affecting you this bad
I can relate to this. It's a really difficult one to wrap your head around because of all of the gaslighting you likely ensured and the trauma bond. Stay strong and take it one day at a time.
Hey whiz, sorry to hear it man. I’m in a similar situation, although I may be in a little deeper as we’ve been married 12 years and have 3 sons. But, we too began as friends on the phone early on. It’s a sad and dark road to lose the love of your life. But we are forced to evolve as humans and if we are still breathing then we should still be growing. My wife opened our marriage and has been dating other people. We’re in a place of wanting/needing separate places but have to share a space until money is better for us both. It’s even more difficult when you add the cost of raising young children. None the less we both work hard to take care of our kids. It hurts that the relationship can’t be there at this point and it’s hard to live together and hear her want and need other peoples attention. It’s like you didn’t know who you were really with the whole time.
