On Surviving Breakups
Ending any relationship - platonic or romantic - is one of the most difficult things that a person can do. Oftentimes relinquishing the relationship also means letting go of a potential future with the person you're leaving. Breakups are even harder if you have unresolved feelings regarding the person. But they are survivable, even in the direst seeming circumstances.
If you need immediate support, you can connect to a listener. You can also peruse our guide on surviving breakups (https://www.7cups.com/breakup-advice/ ). This offers helpful tips for accepting and managing the emotions that come along with a breakup, and subsequently how to resolve and work through them.
You can also seek support on these forums, where you can talk to listeners like me or other members going through the same thing. I'm happy to talk to anybody about their experiences and to offer whatever support I can. :) You all deserve to be happy and healthy.
A few months ago my fianceand i broke up. It was a very messy ending, we both did wrong things and I ended up breaking it off. I kept asking her to be my friend though and was having major depressionproblems from not being able to just be a friend and that we don't have to hate each other. The whole thing has been upsetting to me up until this week. I found out that i have cancer and this cancer could have been prevented because 2 years ago i had evidence of it and my ex kept begging me to get it checked out but i never did. I am greatful today that ourrelationship is overbecauseshe never deserved to be a widow. Thank god.

My boyfriend just broke up with me. We?ve been together for 16 months. We never had a fight or an argument. He just calledcrying. He said he ?just found out? that he is married for over 8 years now.It was so abrupt. I didn?t see it coming. I don?t know how to deal with this.
A few months ago, my relationship of 2 years ended. I was devastated since this person had been so intertwined with my life. I couldn't even remember how I was before I was in the relationship. I think one of the most crucial things in getting over a breakup is support. Support from family, friends, religion, or anything else you find comfort in is so important. In all, it was a huge lesson for me to not invest my full being into a relationship unless it is with myself. Many people ask me if I still care about him. I think it's natural to always have some sort of feelings for someone you were so romantically involved with; however, as time passes you see that you both are not the people you were when you dated. It gets easier. You just need to focus on yourself and your goals of the future.
Breakups are hard! I found this site, not entirely because of a breakup, I've got a lot of stuff going on, but the current thing at the moment that is front and center is a breakup, and it's painful. We weren't together that long, like not even a year, but I actually saw a future with this man, something I have never felt before, it is very difficult for me to trust people. And we broke up in November, well he told me he didn't feel that way for me anymore, but I guess I didn't want to hear it then, so now his technique of telling me is to cut me off entirely and that hurts. I wish I'd have just been able to let go last year. Thanks to everyone else for sharing their stories too, it sucks but it helps to feel less alone.
Hi there, I'm so sorry for your loss, regardless of the lenght of time the relationship lasted. I feel exactly the same way....only we were together for 7years. I'm 32, and he is 56, through it all I still believe we're not meant to be apart. My days are lenghty and lonly and very hard. I've lost myself in all of this. A loss is a loss my darling, and I wish I had never known him in order not to feel this pain. I know what you're going through. It's constant. And him just shutting you off like that....it's the worst
Surviving a break up is definitely a feat! Especially if you had invested much time into the relationship. It has been 6 months since my divorce, and 2 years since we separated. I was with my high school sweetheart for 8 years. Today, I honestly feel great. At first I remember coming home and all his stuff was gone. That was traumatic. I felt like I couldn?t possibly go on without someone by my side. I didn?t know my worth then, however I definitely do now. Now, I am with someone who appreciates me and knows my worth. He reminds me how beautiful I am every day. Sometimes it takes going through something like that to make you realize that you are in control of everything!
Once he left, I felt like I took control over my life again. Instead of moving out of the apartment, I embraced my home and made it my own! I repainted, redecorated and reinvented my home. It became like a whole new place. Once that was done, I worked on reinventing myself. Making myself better at every aspect I put my mind to.
If I can do it? anyone can!![]()
Breakups are tough, it's not a nice feeling for sure. What I usually do isjust try to forget about the other person for a little bit. Eat some ice cream and allow myself to go through a process where I am sad but I try to limit these days. Then I just do anything to make me happy, whether it is reading a book or going out with friends. Lastly once I am feeling better I will look back on the relationship and look for parts that I could have improved on for future reference. Hope this helps anyone!
I am so sorry thateveryone wentthrough such horrible breakups. Its not fair for people to get their hearts broken, but we do become stronger from them. It will take time, and it may not seem like it now but you will feel so great once you've healed. It just comes to show you how strong you are, how amazing you are, and how you can adapt to any situation inyour life!
~Brakes ups are difficult, when we enter in to relationships we are take a chance in allowing another person to enter our emotional space. Of course, this seems like a great idea when a new a ?cute? partner is flirting and we are lusting for each other; they are saying all the right things and we accept. We then enter in to an agreement with a person, agreeing that they will respect, be honest, love, care and protect our emotions. With that we provide them our love, open our hearts and offer the option to trust or hurt. It gets difficult when we are unable to blend our life with another, or began seek out other interest. Ending a relationship to soon can result in returning to the same person without setting the expectation; ending a relationship to late can result in one or both persons getting hurt emotionally. The fact is that, relationships are something that should be a part of a through process from both parties. Each person setting standards and expectations, and ensuring the other can and will abide by those standard and expectations. Although, this does not change the brake up pain, hurt, mistrust or any other negative feelings or emotions; braking up is difficult but we take a chance in life to develop experience in the field of love and relationships.

Hello everyone, I have never done this in my life so I am going to do my best to explain what happen. I was with a woman for 2 years when I met her she just got out of a long marriage that when they was together he cheated on her with the babysitter and then when she left him the girl moved in. She didnt take that lightly because they also have 3 small children together. It was a few months and we met after she moved out and we clicked like nobody I have ever been with and I am 42. We loved each other very strongly and never fought. But just one thing she got to be very insucure and wishy washy about us after about a year and broke up and left me heartbroken I was so close with her children. Long story short she contacted me 3 months after the break up and we got back together and the first night out we looked at each other said how we felt agreed to fly to vegas and get married we was so excited. Well she bought up me not asking her dad then I brought up my daughter and her children not knowing and I just felt so wrong so I backed out. And after we got home she was different she still wanted to look for rings but I guess I wanted to do it as a suprise at this moment either way just 2 weeks ago she looked at me after going to the jewelery store to look at more rings and said she feels she needs to be alone maybe I am not the one for her ugggg. Crushed I so didnt understand but I tried everything to understand and talked to her for a few days but decided we cant just be friends. Its been 24 days and I still have not contacted her but she still has me as a friend on facebook and also some of our pictures we took together. I am truly over her coming back because I feel that I can not trust her again after how she hurt me for no reason. Only thing I did wrong was not marry her I treated her like an angel. So I guess I am just scared she will try to contact me again one day. And another thing I thought was weird was she sat a date on how long she needs to be alone. she said from jan30 to jan 30 2015. I felt this was really goofy. Please just be honest to help my mind I have never had so many thoughts and pains. Thank you so much for reading
