Help!! My partner is emotionally numb
Hello everyone. I'm new to this. Not sure how this is going to work but let's give it a try. So back store. Me n my partner have been together for 15 years.. yeah I know that's a long damn time. We r not married but, we soon will be. We recently have gone through the court system because our relationship has always been rocky. You know a hurricane meets a volcano kinda thing. When it's going good it's GREAT but, when it's going back it's oh so bad. N Ehoo.. he was out of the house from October to December. He came back saying this is what I want, we both need to work on our own issues. It's been going ok kinda smooth sailing.. well.. so I thought. He told me last night that hes started going down the path of feeling numb again. Telling me he's not good enough for me, that he can't be there emotionally for me and give me the "attention" that I deserve. I'm not by far perfect. I'm a survivor or child abuse and we'll that has turned my life upside down. I'm very hard to live with. Very impatient, he says I'm always playing the victim card. I've really been focused on fixing that. I just don't know what to do. I love this man to death. He's my world besides our kids.. I just need help..
@Lillyischarmed80- some communities offer counseling support for situations like yours. Sadly also going down a similar road. Not fun. But you deserve a supportive partner who stands beside you. Best of luck to you. Also some listeners are available for long term support- browse and be patient
Everyday things are getting better. While talking with his mother, learning that his father was the same way, I just dont think he's good at showing emotion.
@Lillyischarmed80,
Hi Lilly, seems you two really love each other and want to make things work. Have you ever considered relship counseling, the might help to express each other's feeling in mutual understanding. Do take your time though to find a therapist, good ones that makes both of you feel safe are rare.
I envy the two of you, wish I had understood my wife's complexities and traumas sooner.
Take care.
