Dealing with partner who does not understand mental health struggles
I am a busy single working mom of 4. Once or twice a year I am overwhelmed with anxiety and ask my partner for help. I just want to be able to talk things through and sort things out in my head. Whenever I have asked for help he shuts down and gets defensive. He will not talk to me for days. (This makes it worse) How can I communicate my needs in a way he will understand
@Mandycane01
this makes me annoyed because I relate to it so much as I confronted a situation with my now ex partner of 10+ yrs who never cared probably. He was emotionally switched off and I constantly felt let down and hurt.
All I'll say is - know ur worth and value yourself - enough to take action accordingly because you deserve to be treated better.
May be too forward here so apologies if I am and if I'm wrong but it sounds to me, looking deeper into the relationship, that this may go deeper then just what you've posted.

I can totally relate and understand your concern, even I was facing the similar issue, as per my personal experience would suggest you to make changes with your communication pattern, make him understand emotionally with a good lovable gesture, make him realise how his reaction is impacting your mental health, Don't play blame games, if he is self centered personality then treat him accordingly, compliment him often , incase even after trying every possible formula if you still facing the issue then I would simply suggest you to stop expecting, you need to be strong and you can always share your concerns with friends, relatives etc you will feel good, many womens face such issue, you are not alone,, do meditation, exercise daily, keep on watching positive videos, quotes, love yourself and stop expecting from partner to understand you everytime, if he is not talking to you then don't show him that it's impacting you alot, be normal or else he will keep on doing same thing to punish you. Be cool and normal, things get normal with time automatically, when his mood is good that time you can try interacting with me nicely in lovable manner.
Thankyou!
@Mandycane01 have realistic expectations of your partner. He may not have the capacity to support you the way you think he should and beloved you should not place that type of pressure on him. This is what a counselor/therapist is for. Find people who can give you what you need.
