Reasons for Stress in Relationships and what could you do about it?
Relationships are beautiful but they are messy and stressful as well.
We know how stressful it can be and what could be the outcome of it if not dealt with utmost care.
Stress could be one of the biggest and common reasons for conflicts and separation. But, what are the reasons that cause stress in relationships?
This is what we will be discussing in this post.
Common Reasons for Stress in Relationships
❑ Uncertain about the future of the relationship.
One of the common reasons for causing stress in relationships is the constant concern about the future of the relationship two person sharing. Plenty of questions filled in mind of both side like how will be surviving in adversaries? What if one of the people betrays another? What if one finds someone better and separate? What if the behavior of the person changes in the future?
And, this is understandable. It is natural to constant worry about the future. It could be really hurtful to feel that there is a great connection between the two but do not know how long it will last?
❑ Disagreements and different perspectives
It is another reason causing stress in a relationship. Two people discussing a simple matter but see the things differently and feel like they are right.
Probably they are but they miss to see the things from others perspective and it leads to disagreements and arguments. And, if it happens often, it feels like other people do not understand and value other's emotions and thoughts.
❑ No Mutual Efforts.
Another big reason is lack of mutual efforts. Two people are in a relationship but efforts are one-sided only and other people not giving the best of the efforts to build a healthy relationship. It can be crushing for one feeling that another person is not taking any interest. It feels isolated and alone in the journey of relationship.
It is also difficult to express and tell the person that I need your efforts too because it seems quite common sense for anyone who is in a relationship.
So, if you are experiencing stress due to one of the reasons discussed above, here are a few things that could be of some help.
❑ Talk.
Sounds easy but it is not easy for many who are feeling stressed and especially one experiencing anxiety. It makes it difficult to talk and one feels stress constantly increasing.
It is easier said than done that go out and talk about your feelings and thoughts to another person. But, this is what one can try. Let the other person know how are you feeling and what are you experiencing. And, see how they respond. At least, you informed other person and removed the assumption that they know how you feeling and still not caring.
Maybe they do not know as everyone has own thought process. So, to get on the same page, we need to talk. Give a try.
❑ Stop thinking about what will happen.
Again easier said than done. But, let's try. Try not to assume what will happen if you do this or that and what if you do not. Give a shot and figure out the outcome. The probability of success is 50/50. But, at least you will have an accurate outcome without a doubt.
For example, we avoid conflicts as it feels like it may bring the distance between two. But, sometimes it is good to have mini-conflicts as it brings two people closer because they get to know each other's thoughts and realize how vulnerable one can be.
❑ Practice gratitude journaling together.
Practicing gratitude together help both to count all the good things about each other and their relationship. Also, it provides all the possible reasons of why they are together in this relationship in the first place? And, how important this relationship is for both of them.
Take out some time every week and practice it together.

Something for handling stress in relationships - make sure to make your partner smile randomly every single day at certain times of the day e.g. before bedtime or before meals. You know them best, you know what will make them smile. It builds enough shared smiles and good memories over time to overcome tough moments together. It may not even work everytime to bring the smile but it develops a routine where you both look forward to certain moments of the day regardless of external situations. It also helps you to remember to actively engage and emotionally connect with your partner on an ongoing basis as you both grow and mature, to know exactly what makes them smile :)
@0m sounds like a plan. You are so right about it. When you both work together and feel comfortable with each other, it becomes easier to communicate, understand and work together to overcome a rough patch, So, how was your experience applying this method?
@ASilentObserver
In my experience, it has helped us develop our own "language" and sort of a "shared mind". It doesn't mean we think the same, it just means we are in tune with how our partner thinks. Like being fine tuned to their frequency I guess?
With years of shared context and mutual understanding, sometimes we can send a short little text that might mean absolutely nothing to anyone else, may not even make sense to others but we totally know our partner is going to chuckle at it because we understand exactly where it's going to take their mind! That shared mind when working together on solving problems is far more effective than either of us alone or either of us with other people. It's like a combined positive energy becoming bigger than the little parts that add up to it.
