Roses: a discussion about isolation!
Hey my lovely community.
Today i would like to talk with you about ... Roses!

you may think: what does that have to do with relationships & friendships?
well, sometimes we tend to isolate ourselves from our friends or partners. i think we all have experienced that at one point in life. we may push someone away because we are scared of getting hurt, for example, although there can be various reasons. After pushing people away, we may find ourselves hoping for them to reach out to us again to show us they care enough about us.
that is the thing with the rose: if someone gets too close to us, we tend to hurt them or push them away.
Time to discuss!
Do you tend to push people away/isolate yourself?
What are the impacts of isolating yourself? (on yourself, your relationships...)
@AveryLove
man did this speak to me
I have some friends but some are very far away
My romantice relatioinships dont work out basically because my BS meter goes off with a lot of people
I sign up to do thing then I dont go
I plan and plan and plan then punk out
I never used to be this way
I used to go to thingd on my own no problem
I still go to movies theater and dance and concerts alone
but I cant socialize outside of work
I dont have energy after work to go out "after work" and I am not a big drinker
Weekends I clean and study and paint and workout at home
Maybe when the weather gets better but for now NOPE

Kind of a unique twist on this is that my husband often isolates himself when he feels hurt (often in response to even gently delivered criticism or even less praise than he expects). For many years, he would then criticize me and accuse me of intentionally hurting him. Lately he's stopped the attack but isolates himself for a day or more. When he's ready to re-engage, he seems to want me to welcome him with open arms, but often this is when I isolate myself from him. I think I'm still protecting myself from the "attack" that used to come, but also I feel hurt by his isolation, lack of communication, and (what seems to me) passive aggressiveness.
I'm not really sure how to handle this. We're slowly addressing it in counseling.

Do you tend to push people away/isolate yourself?
I try not to push people away because I don't anyone to wonder "Why is he acting like that way towards me? What did I do to him?" It's not a very good feeling. So when I meet someone new, I try to be open-minded and give them a fair chance. It takes awhile for me to trust someone, because I've been hurt several times in past relationships, but I try my best not to push away the people that really care about me.
What are the impacts of isolating yourself? (on yourself, your relationships...)
It ruins relationships and it makes you lonely because you've pushed everyone away.
@AveryLove
