Here are some signs to discuss --
✔ Violence - Either in physical, sexual or emotional form. When they feel angry, frustrated, they push, hit or grab you and make you do things you do not want to do. They do things that affect your emotional, mental and physical health.
✔ Disregard boundaries - Boundaries are important to have a healthy relationship. It allows you to feel your individuality and be yourself. That is why we need boundaries. But when you set boundaries and abusive person disregard your boundaries, it affects your life. It indicates your needs and preferences are not as important as his. And, they try to undermine your self-worth.
✔ Controlling attitude - Mutual consent and agreement is a much-needed component of a healthy relationship. But when your partner tries to control your life in every or most of the aspects, it is abusive. It like living life the way he wants. For doing everything, you need to seek his permission and that is unacceptable for a healthy relationship.
✔ Being possessive of you - You cannot meet your friends. You cannot talk to your family. You cannot do this. You cannot do that. It may seem like they love you and that is why possessive of you. No doubt it is good. But extreme possessiveness hurts where you find you are stopped to do things and meet people you want to. They keep a check on you all the time and if you do not do what they say, they get angry and show physical aggression.
✔ Pinpoint flaws in you - Who is flawless? Nobody. Nobody is perfect. But finding flaws and telling you are not good. Put all the blame for all the problems and troubles on you. They do not accept their responsibility for the events and incidents.

@ASilentObserver hey obs. love this, thanks for sharing. i personally realized that i was in an abusive relationship by being mainpulated by the other person. that was the "sign" to me and made me realize i need to leave
There are two subtle mentally and emotionally abusive tactics perpetrators will use to control their victims and keep them entwined in harmful codependent relationships.
The first is
@AbbyHarris1976 That's really interesting. Thank for the information! <3
@AbbyHarris1976 Hey Abby
You are awesome. Thank you for adding those two important points.
@ASilentObserver
Youre welcome! 🙂 I have had those two tactics of mental and emotional abuse used against me so I can definitely relate ...
@ASilentObserver
Something I've realized is that a relationship can be abusive or damaging to you without abusive intent. Sometimes articles that talk about abusive relationships seem to miss this, and (for me at least) it made me think that what I was experiencing wasn't really abusive or harmful because it was not "that bad."
I've been married 6 years and just recently realized this. My husband has used mild forms of gaslighting on me, coming from a place of fear and insecurity on his part. He gets defensive and goes on the attack, claiming not to have said or done things that were hurtful to me (or not remembering them), but recalling very clearly anytime I did something wrong in his eyes. I honestly feel sorry for him that he is unable to truly hear me and respond with empathy, because I am now in the process of leaving him for that. I feel relieved, happy, and excited to have opportunities of love and connection in my future. He is "sad and feels failure." I do love him and don't want to hurt him, but I realize that this is not a healthy relationship for me and I deserve better.
@peacefulforest75 I am sorry to hear it forest. Every relationship has some signs of abuse but they do not seem that bad. They seem manageable.
@ASilentObserver
Thanks. I have realized it and feel a lightness and freedom I haven't felt in years. I didn't realize one could be in an abusive relationship without an abusive person. I don't think he is one. But he has definite attachment and communication issues and doesn't want to work on them. So...I am out.
@ASilentObserver
Another one is threatening to break up with you if you don't do what you're told.
A few other examples:
* taking your money and personal possessions
* embarrassing you in public
* being sexually demanding
* always blaming you for everything
@Emirson2018
Those are really good examples <3
- Peace x
