What would you do?

Thank you for the interesting dilemma. This is what I would do, not that anyone need follow this course, though.

Whether my friend was desperate or not seems immaterial to me. I would drive him or her around and do the best I could to get my friend where they need to be.

Just because I am driving around, does not mean that I cannot view the experiences as a beneficial and relaxing one - the look of the town, Sun and or Clouds in the Sky, Birds flitting about, an Interesting Sign, the luxury of reading a book or listening to my favorite music while I wait for the application to conclude, or simply contemplating in the car while my friend applies, debriefing my friend after the interview and offering encouragement after, perhaps it will be successful and a job had, a congratulatory Cocktail and Toast, and etc...

It can all be a meaningful experience, should I choose to make it such. Ha, ha... or complete and utter misery - my choice there...

In this scenario:

Your good friend needs a car ride to go apply for Jobs. It is your day off and you were looking forward to getting some rest in. If you go with your friend, you won't be able to rest fully and you don't get another day off for the next 6 days.

I would do anything for my best friend whenever she needs it. The only thing...is... Job applications can be done during any day, so I would either tell her when I'm available to take her, or if on my day off --- I'll rest for a certain portion of the day and take her for the job applications later in the day.

If it's a job interview or multiple interviews, then of course I will take her to them. That's important and immediate.
