Apologizing for a misunderstanding

Should I apologize for a misunderstanding that caused a friend to not respond due to their own insecurities? I keep blaming myself for not clarifying on the situation.

This started about a month ago, when a guy friend asked if I knew another guy. I replied that I knew him but I didn’t clarify when. There was no response. I started feeling regret of saying that I knew him through school. When actually I only talked to the other guy and nothing more.

we’re you in the wrong during the misunderstanding? if you were in the wrong then yes apologise but if you feel like you were right then maybe apologise for the way the misunderstanding made them feel, not for the misunderstanding itself. it’s okay to have disagreements with people, not everyone has the same opinions on things and can’t be expected to agree all the time, but sometimes in them disagreements we forget how it can effect the other person, think about how you feel about the situation. maybe it would be worth speaking to them about the misunderstanding and clarifying it, so that it is no longer misunderstood and you are both on the same page about things? i hope that helps in some way x
