Ending a Difficult Friendship
I have a friend that really is hard to deal with. He's rude, treats me like I'm stupid and inferior, and even sometimes hits me. We were really only acquaintances until we started going to college at the same place, and now he thinks were best friends. I really want to end the friendship because it's been taking a toll on me, but I can't because he is severly depressed and suicidal. Almost all of his other friends have left because of the same reasons I want to, which leaves me to deal with the emotional aftermath, and have no way out.
I know that this isn't something that can be remedied easily, but any advice would be helpful right now.
Thanks.

You are staying with him for what purpose?
Because he is suicidal and severely depressed? And that he will die if you were to leave him? That is an extremely unhealthy friendship to have and it is also a form of blackmailing. The sooner you get out of it, the better. I recommend professional help and therapy treatment for your friend.

Hey there!
Im sorry to hear you are in this situation, it doesn't sound like a very healthy friendship at all, so I'd like to be completely honest with you here by saying you are not responsible for this person mental welfare or saftey, you are only responsible for your own, and your happiness, you need to be careful and look after yourself before this person damages your self confidence/self esteem and has a impact on your own mental health and abilities.
Whilst I understand you feeling bad for this person, this person is not feeling bad when they are putting you down of physically striking you, you owe it to yourself to leave this friendship before it makes you feel worse. And I also agree with what has already been mentioned by the previous listener, your friend needs help, professional help, this is something you are not able to offer.
Take care!
