How to Handle Serious Venting
To a lot of my friends, Im a go-to for emotional conversations and a shoulder to cry on. While Im more than happy to help, Im starting to get way in over my head. A lot of my close friends have recently admit to me that their either hurting themselves, suffering breakdowns nightly, or even thinking about suicide. Im glad they feel comfortable talking to me at least, but I feel useless. I dont know what to do or how to help them, and the stress of helping them every night is wearing on me. How do I explain to them that I love them and want them to come to me when they need to, but they need to seek professional help?

Hey there, hopefully you are doing well. There's a few things I would like to point out;
To a lot of my friends, Im a go-to for emotional conversations and a shoulder to cry on. (Its an amazing you are able to give support to people in need, however this can affect you mentally and emotionally. There's a chance you are taking this role of a care giver, and always investing without much in return) While Im more than happy to help, Im starting to get way in over my head. A lot of my close friends have recently admit to me that their either hurting themselves, suffering breakdowns nightly, or even thinking about suicide. (I can see you love and care about your friends, however their issues are quite complicated. Their depression will always make them talk to you at any time while you slowly get drain. ) Im glad they feel comfortable talking to me at least, but I feel useless. (You are doing the best you can, it shows you are an amazing friend, but their depression is not something that can be solved or helped easily.) I dont know what to do or how to help them, and the stress of helping them every night is wearing on me. (Its understandable how you feel, at some point it can wear you down. Depression can be quite tough. I noticed that they often vent, it makes you feel they are doing well, and then they vent over and over again which makes you feel a certain way. They are constantly feeling negative and hopeless, so this can affect the people around them) How do I explain to them that I love them and want them to come to me when they need to, but they need to seek professional help? (Im noticing that there's no boundaries here, which i could see why you haven't. I sense you might feel fear of how they might react and also fear of confrontation. It's important to set boundaries with friends who go through depression without seeking help because your mental health will decrease while they will keep venting for a long time.)
@freshLight64 thank you so much, this has helped me a lot. I established a lot of boundaries with my friends and a few of them even told their parents about their problems and are going to get professional help, and they agreed that theyd been wearing on me too hard and now ask me if Im okay to talk before they vent. Thank you, from me and my friends : )
