I have no friends

Hey! So I just realized I have no friends. I've always knew my "group of friends" weren't really friends they were just people I hang out with but what I recently realized is that I actually don't feel good when I'm with them (like I feel left out, I feel like I'm not enough, like I'm not loved and I feel obligated to do what they do so that I don't miss anything and I'm a part of the group) and that I'm not my best self when I'm with them so I decided to not hang out with them anymore and I was actually okay with that I mean it hurt not having friends but it was fine because I had my best friend but I also realized that I don't like being with her because our energies are so different and I feel better when I'm not with her and also we don't have things in common anymore so yeah I basically have no friends and I'm having a hard time accepting it. I keep telling myself that maybe I'm the problem, maybe I'm not enough or idk but deep down I don't think that because I love myself and I think I'm great but this things and the fact that I've always struggled making friends, that I've never had a boyfriend and that no one shows interest in me and nobody seems to care about me make me question that. And I don't know how to make friends and how to meet people to help me let go this old friendships and move on, any advice?

I'm in a very similar situation. My so called "friends" are only a relationship at the surface. We cannot talk about anything at a deeper level, aside from work and very general topics. I used to have a best friend, met her in Grade 6, and it wasn't until in my mid-20s, that I called of our "best friend forever" status. Our friendship a through those years, I felt it was one-sided. I was always the one to make time for us to meet up, hang out at the mall, have a meal together. Not once did she initiate making plans, and our plans, she'll call last minute saying she can't make it (at least 10 times, over those years, and when I've already arrived at our meeting place). I was getting so tired of keeping our friendship alive. Sadly, when I told her I've had enough, she did not even try to keep it. She only told me, "You've known that I've always been like this.".. It's like, telling me, she's not willing to make any changes in her behaviour to keep our friendship, that it was a take-it-or-leave-it friendship. After I had "broken-up" with her, we eventually lost contact within 5 years. At first, we'd still send each other text messages with Holiday Greetings, and Birthday Wishes. After 5 years, no contact whatsoever. Oh, and another thing. Back in high school, there was an incident where I thought, "Oh wow, she finally made the effort to ask me out to play tennis with her after school!".. When I later found it, she had used me as an excuse to her parents to go out on a date with her boyfriend (I had asked my guy friend to join us for tennis, to play doubles).

Now, at 35, I'm friendless too. My "work" friends are all 50+ in age. A couple of girls are around my age, but one of them is engaged, and that other is married with two kids. Also, they aren't really the type where I'd feel connected to at a deeper level either. Like I said, we can only chat about work-related things. Nothing too personal. In my 35 years of life, I've only had one boyfriend, that lasted only for a year. I think it ended, all because I dropped out of University and moved back home (the University I went to, was a 12hr drive away from my hometown). I had lived on campus in my first year, and I dropped out during the 3rd month of my second year. I've been single since.

I'm struggling with the same situation as you. Also, this social-distancing that is happening worldwide, is not helping either. There's definitely no place to go to develop any new friendships either. As I get older each year (my birthday just passed), I feel more and more afraid of being single with no friends or partner.

7 Cups had been my breathing hole, I've a few good folks here that I can depend on for good advice and support. It's not the same as having some physically here with me, but at least there's someone out there willing to hear me out. I hope you can find a good friend or two as well. Cheers~
