In need of advice

So two of my friends (lets call them Jack and Ruby) have been dating for a while and theyre really happy together and Im really happy for them, but I recently found out that Jack used to be interested in me. He told me this and asked hypothetically what I wouldve said if he had asked me out before he was in a relationship with Ruby and I told him that I mightve said yes, but that I didnt know because I had never really thought that someone would be interested in me.

Today Ruby and I were talking and she told me that Jacks sister had told him that I used to like him. I was shocked and immediately told Ruby that it wasnt true (which it wasnt) and that I would never want to come between them. She, being an amazing friend, believed me and told me that if I ever did feel that way that it would be totally alright and that I can always talk to her. I thanked her and said the same to her.

I think everything will turn out alright in the end, but the whole situation is anxiety inducing for me and I cant seem to stop worrying that something I said will be misinterpreted and/or something bad will happen and things will never be the same between my friends and I.

please help.

Hey there, hopefully you are doing well. There's a few things I would like to point out;

So two of my friends (lets call them Jack and Ruby) have been dating for a while and theyre really happy together and Im really happy for them, but I recently found out that Jack used to be interested in me. He told me this and asked hypothetically what I wouldve said if he had asked me out before he was in a relationship with Ruby (This is an indication he was interested or somewhat has interest in you at the moment and its coming out on an indirection question. I do think in the past he probably didn't have the confidence to ask you out) and I told him that I mightve said yes, (This would probably make him feel glad) but that I didnt know because I had never really thought that someone would be interested in me. (I'm sensing some sort of low self esteem or limited self belief on this sentence. I can tell you don't feel good enough about yourself, so it makes you think that no one would feel interested in you)

Today Ruby and I were talking and she told me that Jacks sister had told him that I used to like him. (This is how misunderstanding begins...his sister didn't really have clue about how you felt and decided to use assumptions) I was shocked and immediately told Ruby that it wasnt true (which it wasnt) and that I would never want to come between them.

(I could see the anxiety comes from your fear of something happening. I think you are afraid of losing them, so this often makes you think about every single detail about the situation and then is where you begin to criticize what you said or did. The one who truly misinterpret things was jack sister)

@SlytherinQueen16 Just remain friends with jack since he already has a girl friend but if he liked you i would think he would have asked you out sooner but since he has a gf i don't think it matters as much but i guess if they broke up that would be a different story.

@SlytherinQueen16,

Sorry you are feeling anxious and all and sorry I have to bring some bad news to you but I believe you have become part of a manipulative ,toxic situation with your friends and his sister.If she started telling people about you and her brother,first question for me is - did he mention to her anything about your conversation,and besides,I find it really strange that he started this conversation about what would have happened between the two of you. This kind of questions seem off to me ,having in mind the fact that he is your friend's boyfriend.I'd be careful not to discuss such topics with him.Obviously he shares stuff with his sister and who knows who else with.Then you turn out to be in a messy situation,not knowing where it all started from.For me,he shouldn't be asking you such questions ,it's uncomfortable for you ,puts you in an embarrassing situation .Hope this helps and don't think of yourself in negative terms ,you need to love yourself more,not think that nobody would be interested in you romantically.This shows low self-esteem and you should work on this.Toxic people sense insecure,vulnerable people from miles away !

Hi. Thank you for your answer. Regarding it I would like to say that I dont feel as though my friends are toxic, they have never acted that way and they certainly do their best to stop me from being self deprecating and to tell me how much they care about me. Although I do think Jacks sister could possibly be toxic as I have heard her say bad things about others before, one of which being Ruby, and the fact that Ive never said anything to her that could allude to me liking Jack. The whole reason Jack had asked in the first place was because he had made a deal with his friend a while ago. I will say that Ruby and I have talked it over and everything seems to be going fine, shes not mad and she believes me and not Jacks sister. Everything is pretty much back to normal.

@SlytherinQueen16,

If you feel like wanting to put the whole thing behind your back,that's up to you to decide.Keep in mind,though,that we should judge people by their actions not by the words they say,some toxic people can be smooth talkers but there is no substance behind the words they say.

Thank you. At this point my friends and I have put this whole thing behind us, no ones feelings were hurt, no one got mad or anything, and everything is chill now. Although I dont feel it will happen, I will certainly keep your advice in mind if they do ever do anything or start acting differently towards me in the future.
