Break up, text her or not?

I know there are always two face of the medal, but I’ll try to be the more objective I can.

I was a student 2 month ago and basically in February 2023 I told a lie to my (ex)girlfriend. I told her I had 4 exams left to my graduation, instead of 6. I know lying is always wrong regardless, but I was embarass for my situation and I explained it to her.

I’ve never told her any other lie, and during our 8 years relationship I know for sure that I’ve always been a good boyfriend, not perfect obviously…but good.

I do not want to make this thread too long, but we were a happy unconventional couple together.

Until last month, when we were speaking about our schools and I told her my lie because I could not take it anymore.

But she is convinced that she has “cornered me” also if that’s not true because I could continue to lie her anyway.

She does not tolerate lies, and I understand that but I think also that she’s a bit hypocritical about that because I’m sure she also lied to me (but I moved on that, also if I’m aware of it).

For this reason, my lie, she broke up with me last month.

Now I decided to speak with someone, more objective than me, and I just want to know what you think about it. Is it a valid reason to break up?

I’m also a bit angry with her because she turned her back to me when she always sad that she would never, but I also miss her and I’m not sure if I want to make a contact again with her. Any advice?

This is the IMO unrealistic situation of people who say things like they will not tolerate lies.... as lies come in various forms from small saving face thing you did to something real serious.

it happens a small 6 instead of 4 exams fib .... you confessing to be true ....... shows more about you then her... some people may feel they MUST stick to some line in the sand they drew ....often hypocritical.

No that is not enough to break up about if she did that could it be because her inability to see past small item and trying to live up to her IMO unrealistic zero tolerance policy thus saving face for her... OR she had other issues and wants to pin it on this.

I'm sorry to here that. I don't think that this lie is an enough reason to breakup, she has the right to get angry or whatever because you lied but breakup is too far unless she wants to.

Everyone lies humans aren't perfect. it's just my opinion but I think you should let her go, maybe she tried to get herself out by any reason. Stay strong, hope everything goes well.
