Can’t stop thinking I ruined my life breaking up with my ex
I broke up with my ex almost 3 years ago and was doing fine / wasn’t thinking about her / had truly felt I had moved on. Then about a month ago I hear she’s now with someone else and now I can’t stop thinking about her and that I ruined my life by breaking up with her. It felt like I was hit by a bus of emotions and these emotions are consuming me.
It doesn’t make any sense because I never felt anything remotely like this the past couple of years, but now it’s always in the back of my mind and sometimes takes me to dark places. I just feel so much regret from breaking up with her, thinking where we would be now and that we could have been so happy together. It’s driving me insane and I just need to let it out because the feelings won’t go away. I just don’t understand why I feel this way suddenly after so much time when I never previously regretted the breakup. Why did hearing she was with someone else trigger all these feelings? It all doesn’t make any sense to me but I can’t stop thinking these things no matter what I tell myself and am really struggling with it.
Thank you for reading and appreciate any and all support.

You did break up for a reason right?
Sometimes things in life move and we think about the road not taken. looking back we only remember the best parts of people / or places and it is easy to think all would be great and you would have had a great life etc. When we think of what if... we never remember things that would have been a struggle or a problem.
It is a fairly common thing when an ex is getting married or something to think what if. it is like when we move on in a career are at a job we are not thrilled about we may remember a previous job better then it was.
