TW; abortion discussed

I don't really know how to start this, it's just a bit of a petty thing.. my boyfriend and I have been together for a year and have of course discussed a few political views and life views and everything. One thing I don't fully agree with is that he thinks abortion isn't only the woman's decision. Like he thinks that the man, as the father, should have a say too in case he wants to keep the child. I say that the woman needs to carry out the child and even if the man wants to take care of it, what if the woman doesn't want to possibly lose her job and to through the immense pain of birth for a child she doesn't even want?

I don't really know what to expect of posting this, but this is a sort of important topic to me and we had this discussion just the other day and it sort of stuck with me. He does agree that in certain situations a woman should be able to abort and it shouldn't be illegal, but he thinks the father has just as much right as the mother. And often when i try to argue, he says he doesn't want to talk about it. This is just a bit of a vent, I guess. Just kind of wanted to scramble my thoughts out.

@AliceRndom I agree, it's a very important issue, especially because it's something that might even happen to you someday, as it's never possible to avoid a pregnancy 100%. But also because it's a sign that he doesn't fully understand and empathize with women's experience, and that's an issue that can show up regarding to other matters as well. Personally, that would be a red flag for me. If it's not the case for you but it still doesn't sit right, you might want to explore with him other themes related to women's rights and women's experiences to find out more about his stance.

@AliceRndom

I think 7Cups is a very good place to scramble one’s thoughts out.

And it seems that you and your boyfriend have given a lot of thought to your discussion. I don’t think much use will come from further conversations (unless there's a big revelation on either end), so it might be best for peace of mind to set the topic aside until it becomes more relevant.
