Fear of abandonment
I'm in a long-distance relationship right now (it's been almost 2 years now) and my boyf and I only manage to meet once a month, for a weekend. I suffer from generalized anxiety (diagnosed) and i think i might also suffer from fear of abandonment. My boyfriend recently found a new group of friends (there are both females and males) and i'm so so scared of losing him (i'm actually happy too because he deserves love, but still scared, yeah) and the only thought keeping me going on with this relationship right now is "if he will ever hang out with a female friend (just the two of them), i'll block him everywhere and disappear from his life". I know that i'm so so so wrong and i know that i should trust him (he never gave me reasons to not trust him, but he is also very shy and doesn't tell anyone that he is in relationship), but i really can't trust him 100%. I wanna change my mindset because I know that it's wrong and toxic, but i really don't know how. I also have very low self esteem. Please, help me, i don't wanna screw this :(
@dapperTiger5510 It sounds like you’re in a really tough spot right now; you care deeply about your boyfriend, but at the same time you’re struggling with anxiety, fear of abandonment, and low self-esteem that make it hard to feel secure in the relationship. You’re happy that he has new friends, but also scared of losing him, and those feelings are pulling you in different directions. The fact that you recognize some of your thoughts as unhealthy shows how self-aware you are, and it’s clear how much you don’t want to ruin the relationship. You’re carrying a lot, and it makes sense that you’re feeling overwhelmed.
