Feeling Lost In My Relationship

I'm struggling with my relationship with my girlfriend. We've been together for two and a half years. Lately, it's been difficult and things have felt very distant. I'm worried that she's losing interest. She doesn't give me the same time or attention that she used to. Sometimes, she'll go the whole day without a text or call, and it feels like I'm not even her boyfriend anymore. I've noticed she seems much happier when she's around her friends.

Whenever we had arguments, she always suggested breaking up. I told her I didn't want that, but honestly, I've been feeling the same way. We don't seem to be connecting anymore. But I'm also terrified of breaking up and being alone, especially when living in foreign country.

Even now, while we're still together, I feel incredibly lonely. And I feel trapped. It feels like whatever decision I make – staying or leaving – I'm going to end up in pain and alone. I'm not sure what to do. I feel like I'm stuck, and I need help figuring out how to navigate this.

Apart from pain (or happiness) and being alone (or not), I think there is also one thing you did not mention. It is called the truth.

Maybe my and your personal experience may differ, but...

Isn't there more pain in feeling lonely in a relationship than being free and alone?

I believe in being alone at least you have a chance to make a good relationship with yourself, being "the best version of you".

And what makes you think you need to continue a story which is no longer wanted by both of the parties?

Did you think about some other opportunities to feel less lonely in a place where you feel a stranger? Like dating with some locals (maybe not the best thing, but still better than staying at home alone)? Joining some community connected with hobbies or personal growth? Or making friends with people not being your romantic partners? Just to have a chat or spend some time together...

Really feel you...

There were moments when I felt proud of the love we once shared—a time when her clinginess made me feel needed, and I cherished every bit of it. Yet, as we both grew and evolved, I began to feel more insecure. I realized that while I was desperately trying to be the rock in our relationship, she was slowly drifting, changing, and becoming someone who no longer needed constant reassurance.

We broke up and as much as it hurts I'm slowly taking two steps but going back a step again...

Don’t be afraid of breaking up. You’ll be okay. You don’t need her.
