I'm frustrated with my family almost everyday. My brother lie around all day without doing anything while I complete all the chores my mother and father are working. This has been going on for a while now and this situation have triggered me to think that my brother is better than my in any scenario. My mother defend my brother all the time she's more happy with him in general and I'm not saying she don't love me just not more than my brother. I always take my mother stand in any argument with my father, I fight for her because my father once cheated on her and I can never forgive him for that but my mother never ever think of things that I do as something that matters yet I over exert myself to get my mother to like me or be her favourite but ik I can never do that. All of it frustrates me so much and idk what to do.

HI there.

Welcome to 7 cups.

Of course family relationships count. In fact, they are often very important in how our later relationships develop. So it is really good to think about what works for you and thus you want to carry forward, and what doesn't, and thus you don't.

When we are very young we believe everything our parents tell us. This is wise at that stage. As we get older, we start to develop independent thought and then opinions of our own. This is also very wise, if one day we are going to live without our parents.

But it means we start to clash with our family. We start to wonder what is right and what is fair. It seems you are perceiving some unfairness in the way your parents treat you and your brother and this apparent injustice is leading to frustration. This is a very valid and normal feeling in the face of injustice.

The problem I think you might encounter is that you can't expect people to change to suit you. And you likely have to stay with your parents for some time yet. So you might want to think about how can you accept that your parents think and act differently to you. Some people find the fact that everyone is different is a thing of beauty. And whether you can use this time as a great opportunity to think about what is important for you and how you can work towards what's important to you for the future.

@Clio9876

Thankyou. I'm trying to accept the situation for what it is. It'll take some time. But I've started to understand that my brother have more similarities with my parents thus them liking him more so it's getting simpler. But thankyou for support.
