How to talk to guys/girls via social media

Hi guys!

Okay so for a little background I'm 20 and I've never dated before, never had a situationship or anything never even kissed someone and so I have no idea what to expect of a relationship or how to start or navigate one nor how to recognize a romantic interest

Well recently I've gotten a few *** DMs from guys i don't really know bit we have few mutual friends

It's not like this never happened before but I usually ignored those guys or just didn't know how to respond to texts beyond awkward thanks etc

But recently I've been thinking of actually responding to those messages and actually talking to guys

There was this one guy let's call him Ry. We texted a little for about few days when I was on vacation before I got to overwhelmed and felt unprepared and even unenthusiastic to talk to anyone, which is not bc of him, I'm just kinda dealing with bunch of my own problems, and so eventually I ghosted him

I know, an *** move on my side but i didn't know how to talk to him nor did I know guy Irl so it felt better to just end it quickly

Well today another guy texted me Hi, what's up, how are you... and I kinda want to respond but also I don't want to end up ghosting him too

So I guess what I'm saying is should I even respond? And if I do how do I talk to him, how go actually talk to guys ?

@crimsontime If you think talking online doesn’t work well for you, or if you find it hard to to keep up conversations with people online, maybe try to schedule a date (or just to hangout) in person. It helps to establish a connection with someone when you are meeting them face-to-face, even if it’s just every other week or so. If online is your only option, maybe try to FaceTime them every so often, if you aren’t doing that already.

If you’re interested, definitely respond. There’s so shame in starting a conversation and opting out from continuing talking if you aren’t feeling a connection. You can start by doing a quick scroll through their account and seeing if you guys have anything in common (music, hobbies, pets, etc.) and guiding the conversation towards that. You can also ask about the things he’s interested in, if you see that he/she is wearing a sports jersey in one photo you can mention a recent game, or if he/she posts a lot of pictures of their car you can inquire about that. Try not to bring up stuff too far down in their profile because that can come off as a little creepy. Another way is to bring up your interests and let them ask you about it. If you enjoy traveling, you can describe your trip or a funny story, and send photos if you’d like. If you’re into art or crafting you can showcase some of your pieces and talk about that. People love to talk about themselves but make sure they have an interest in what you have to say too.

Thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately online is the only option for now but I will try to connect with him more even online.

I still haven't texted him, and given that it's pretty late I'll just respond tomorrow

We don't really share same interests, the only thing we might have in common is that we come from the same city, have few friends in common, we both like this one movie and it seems he's alao fan of Yu-Gi-Oh which might be something I'd eventually bring up (all the info is from diging into his F B account)

And yeah he seems pretty interested in sports and even plays so I'll ask about that too but I really don't know anything about sports so maybe I should work on that

I'll see where this goes and if nothing I'll think of it as a trial period

Thank you again 💜
