Is it true?

Today , a friend told me I should work on my grooming and wear makeup. Apparently, my ex is dating someone who's prettier than me. According to my friend, I need to wear makeup because every guy falls for Looks.

I do basic skincare and take care of myself but I don't do makeup

Is it necessary to be loved by a guy?

Hello 😊 I think there are at least three groups of men: 1) those who dislike makeup and prefer women "sauté", 2) those who like women with makeup, 3) those who lie about being in group 1, but as a matter of fact being in group 2.

For me - personally - to some point it is a matter of mutual respect. Would my partner be happy to see me unshaved, in a dirty t-shirt? I think my reaction to my partner going out with no makeup, in oversized jeans could be the same.

I am afraid of women with no makeup as possibly depressed or tending to be neglectful. Though I knew girls pretty dressed and with full makeup who were bearing emotional scars from severe trauma, too. When someone says "I am pretty enough with no makeup" I can see it as narcissistic and run...

However, once I saw a lady here complaining that "her relationships usually do not last any longer than her makeup", and I think she made a great point with that. No matter how hard you try a man of your life will see you with no makeup: at 5:00 a.m., snoring with your mouth open 😉, having a bath or staying in bed with a terrible flu. But I believe it works both ways.

So maybe the key is balance between respect and acceptance? Being yourself on one hand, but reminding your partner how attractive person you are (your looks being only a part of it) from time to time? 😊

Yes, it's not like that I never wear makeup. No, I do wear makeup up occasionally but what she said is I have to wear makeup up whenever I meet my bf or other guys

As long as you accept the value of your feminity, I think this balanced attitude sounds great 💜

@jacek73 you're comparing entirely different things here. A dirty t-shirt is a matter of hygiene, make up is a matter of decoration, which is optional. A pair of baggy jeans is also a matter of comfort, why should women wear tight and potentially uncomfortable clothes to look good?
Why would a woman be neglecting herself if she doesn't weak makeup? Maybe she just doesn't like it?

The question arises: Why should looks matter if someone genuinely loves you?

While physical appearance can be seen as an added bonus in relationships, the foundation of true love goes far beyond surface-level attractions. When a partner truly cares for you, their affection is rooted in the deeper qualities of your character, your shared experiences, and the emotional connection you have built together. They will cherish you for who you are on the inside, appreciating your uniqueness, your values, and your personality—makeup or no makeup. It’s essential to remember that authentic love thrives in a space where vulnerability is embraced, where both partners can feel secure enough to show their true selves without the need for adornment. In this light, looks become secondary to the beautiful bond formed by trust, respect, and genuine affection.

@intuitiveClementine8108 the real question is: do you want a partner that only wants you if you wear makeup?
If it's not something you usually like or do, don't change that for anyone. Wearing makeup daily takes effort, time and money, even if it's light makeup, so why should you change your habit for someone that values looks over other things that matter about you?

Yes but they say every man is like that

@intuitiveClementine8108 "every man wants" can be a strategy to make a woman feel like she needs to conform to a certain standard, otherwise she'll never be loved. It's in the interest of certain men to make you believe there are no guys who have other views and tastes than they do.

I am afraid that any generalizing can be misleading.

I think a man and a woman are attracted to each other because of the fact they are different - they look different, sound different, behave different, walk different (I don't mean here any "cat walk", but some women can walk in such an ethereal and full of dignity way).

There is as difference, too, between attracting someone and building a strong emotional connection with him. It's a difference like between the first date and a marriage.

I believe some men like makeups, but some of them have negative associations with that. For example, some pink lipstick or bright red may look fresh on a young girl, but desperate on an elderly woman. You may have no makeup, but great hair and - what is more important - warm personality. You may have a boy's figure, but express your sensitivity and fragility another way.

As a heterosexual male I just expect a woman to be female. Exact definitions may vary. And it's not about being perfect - because I am too far from being perfect as well. But I don't know a man who would like his partner to look too neglected and shabby...

@intuitiveClementine8108 nah, you don’t need makeup to be loved by the right guy. The right person will appreciate you for who you are, not just how you look. Taking care of yourself is great, but doing it bcs you feel good not bcs someone else says you should. 💙
