It’s too late

A few months ago a male coworker asked me out and I gently turned him down. However I had so much going on with college and work I didn’t think it would work between us. So I told him I wanted to remain as friends. I wasn’t sure if I did like him and apart of me wanted too. Since then my regret has been building and I can’t get him off my mind. Multiple times I thought about talking to him about it and trying but I don’t think it was appropriate since I hurt him first. It’s been about 5 months and today I found out he’s dating another girl from work and I felt like crying and heartache. What is wrong with me. I didn’t think I liked him but I’ve never been in a relationship so all these new feelings are confusing. I know it’s too late to say anything but I’m happy for him. I guess all along I did like him and never knew it.

Try to think of it as more loose ended or open. You didn't necessarily hurt him by turning him down. You were honest, and it was respectful that you made a decision. Back and forth feelings are sometimes important to experience so it might mean you miss it on the first try.

I wouldn't encourage you to tell him outright what you think right now exactly but maybe there is a time that you can still tell him and not distract his current situation. Also, keep your mood up I hate to say everything can be won or lost due to timing but I've had a lot of that going on too.
