Luna only comes on Fridays breaks up my routine. Mom's mad I get upset about it
So I'm really fed up lately that Luna been coming on Fridays only. And she's so unreliable when it comes to coming in that we never know when she will show up but since we did the "hour back" business, she probably wouldn't be leaving her house until after dark. So because of her being unreliable, it means I can't cook on Fridays which is my normal night to cook. Last time she came, we ended up getting fast food because of how late she was getting here. She probably wouldn't be leaving until at least Sunday because she will want mom do her laundry , so it means i either cook on Wed (for the parents and I) or not at all this week.
That doesn't count other problems like on Saturdays if mom doesn't make fruit, we can't have fruit salad with her here because "Luna doesn't like cantouple or bananas" so I ended up getting very few fruits on October 25th because instead of the fruit salad mom had promised me on Saturday I ended up instead with a "broccolis and grape salad" because of Luna being here. So what if I had yogurt (either strawberry or raspberry) and some applesauce? that's not my normal fruit of grapes, cantaloupe, pineapple, half an pear and half an apple and a banana.
I'm guess I'm just really upset because I already missed out on so many Fridays of cooking so far this fall for other reasons and I don't want to miss out on more but thanks to Luna picking Fridays to come, I have to miss out on them. And I will be missing out on one Friday in about 2 weeks because I believe I'm helping to usher the play at our church for Friday night and Saturday afternoon 2 days after my surgery.
I think another reason I don't cook when Luna's here is basically she's always been a picky eater so that's another reason why I can't/don't cook when Luna's here. Like she will eat cooked carrots but wouldn't eat raw carrots.
So about Mom, she's gets mad at me for being upset and she's claiming I'm using Autism as an excuse for me being upset. IT's just I mostly cook for the three of us on Fridays expect for when I don't (Not in town, Luna coming) and she's tells me "that other people have routines" but most other people don't have autism. It's harder for people with autism to handle routines breaking and this is the 2nd time in a month Luna's broke my cooking routine because she HAS to come on a Friday. Mom's think I'm using my autism as an excuse to cry and be upset. Like I'm not I'm allowed to be upset because that means the only day I could possible cook that's not on Sunday is Wednesday. (Thursday's out because Mom's not at home). Whenever she tells me Luna comes on Friday I cry, sniffle and get really upset. Mom's basically telling me to "Get over it" and "act like an adult"
I am sorry that you are experiencing all of this @Disneywoman ✨
Thank you for sharing it with us
@Disneywoman changing up a routine is hard for most people, and then with autism that's a pretty big trigger, especially when there isn't a concrete plan. It's ok to be upset!
I think many of us here have had to work around unpredictable schedules at one point or another. If Luna isn't going to just heat up dinner whenever she shows up and eat alone (regardless of who is making the decision) would you like meal ideas for things that would work for your family? Slow cooker dinners come to my mind right now, but there's a number of sit and wait or prep ahead and get ready quickly possibilities.
@AffyAvo Thanks for trying to help. We don't need meal ideas we have plenty already. The problem is Luna will say "she will be here for supper" but since even she doesn't know when she will be here, it's prevents anyone from making supper. Last time she was here from October 24th, to October 26th, we ended up getting fast food because she didn't show up until about 6pm on 24th.
And also Luna is a picky eater so she will eat cooked carrots but not raw carrots. And she doesn't like cantouple or bananas so that meant on October 25th, I couldn't have the promised Fruit salad for supper. Applesauce and yogurt isn't my normal fruit and only grapes and broccoli salad doesn't count as my normal bowl of fruit.
But Mom hates telling me this kind of information because to her I'm "making a mountain out of a molehill" or its "nothing major". She's getting to the point of not telling me until Luna's coming in the door.
If she's thinking I'm making a mountain out of a molehill because I'm getting upset four and a half days before Luna comes, she's will have an more of volcano if she's keeps it to herself in the future because I will believe I'm making my supper until Luna shows up.
If Luna could have a time she's coming, that could mean I could still cook on Friday but because she's doesn't ever have a time expect "she will be here for supper" it means supper is up in the air. For me, I'm making supper on Wednesday instead don't know what though. Hopefully not pizza, we just had it last week.
@Disneywoman I was thinking of meal ideas like slow cooker or 'low and slow' in the oven where even if started at the same time you could eat it at 5 pm or keep it heating and eat at 7:30 pm. I get it though, it's still s different schedule for prepping everything!
I hope you dmfund a new rhythm that works with Luna's visits soon!
