Mom's mad I didn't ask for a 2nd container -I don't want to argue with people

So I think I might be afraid of arguing with people outside of the family that is.  It's either that or it's people don't understand me.   Today I was doing 24 Hour pee collection for my Toronto doctor.   Mom's mad at the fact I didn't get a 2nd pee container because we have to use  sterilized jars again like we did in the past prior to last year where we just filled up the container.

I just assumed it would be like last year and we only need the one container.  I told Mom I didn't want to ask for a 2nd container because I didn't want the professionals at the clinic to argue with me.  Since they could think they might know better then someone who been doing this pee business since  I was 18.

Maybe I hate having to argue with people beside family, because most talks in the house always seem to end up in arguments especially if I'm in a bad mood. Or the fact that Dad or Luna has taken their angry out at me. I know I have taken my anger out on other people.     Maybe the anxiety of possibility having to argue with people makes me nervous to self-advocate for myself.

The other month I went to a Canadian restaurant chain, Harvey's to get a lunch (hot dogs combo) and it took me 2 times to get people at the restaurant  to understand I wanted pop/soda as well as a milkshake I didn't want the milkshake to replace the pop in the combo as the original employee had put in to the machine.

Mom thinks it would be so easy for me to tell them "I need two pee containers since we had to use jars in the past" but she's not me and doesn't understand parts of my life that she has no idea about.

That sounds like an incredibly stressful day and I completely understand why you felt anxious about asking for a second container.

It makes total sense that you’d want to avoid conflict, especially when you’ve had so much pressure and anger directed at you at home, and when dealing with people who might not listen the first time like at Harvey’s.

Your mom has a different experience than you do, and it’s valid that you felt uncomfortable putting yourself in that position with the clinic staff, especially when you are just trying to get through the task.

You are not alone in finding self-advocacy scary, and it’s totally okay that you are managing this anxiety at your own pace. I’m proud of you for doing that 24-hour collection despite feeling overwhelmed.

I hear how exhausting it is to constantly feel like you have to fight to be understood or to not have to deal with arguments.

Take care of yourself tonight.

@CalmRosebud Today when Mom and I dropped off the pee container because we had two extra jars of pee,  they almost didn't take them.  Which would have meant an huge argument despite the fact they have taken the sterlized jars in the past.

It's like the lab can't make up it's mind... they get mad if we don't use a 2nd container like they did last year or they get mad if we use sterlized jars like we have in the past.   We ended up loosing a small bag because of it.

It's worth it because the other option was to do it all over again and no thanks doing it once was more then enough.

I’m really sorry you ended up losing a small bag because the lab can’t make up its mind.

You did nothing wrong and you were abiding by your doctor’s orders.

I’m very glad you don’t have to do it all over again just because of this horrible persnicketiness and quavering on the part of the lab people.

Hang in there.
