I was in a long-term relationship and I became the caregiver. They had a lot of animals and various health conditions. I adapted because I loved them. They were able to live a happier life because I showed them that they deserve it. There were better relationships with family and they were just bubbly. Things were great, but there was an accident involving an animal that resulted in the passing. The guilt and shame I feel regarding the situation haunt me every day. I took accountability for my actions, but it wasn't enough. I respect that and care deeply. I know I need to forgive myself for what I did and the trauma I caused. It's just so hard because I love them and still care. How can I manage these emotions?

🙏🏻

You deserve compassion, including from yourself 🫂

It sounds like you deeply loved and gave so much in that relationship. Anyone in your place would feel deep guilt and pain after such a loss.

Taking accountability shows sincerity, but it doesn’t mean you have to punish yourself forever.

One small step that may help is to gently remind yourself that your actions came from care, not from a place of harm. Sometimes outcomes are not in our control, even when our intentions are kind.

You might also try writing a letter to them, expressing everything you feel, including your regret and your love.

Healing and self-forgiveness take time. You don’t have to change everything overnight.

Let others support you through this—you don’t have to hold it all 💕

It's so hard to let go. I feel like I'm constantly spiraling.
